-1. no, not "fair enough"... there is a difference in posting "DUMB" posts in dumb threads and posting humorous posts outside of it. Thomas does not post dumb thread worthy posts outside the confines of dt, although there are a very small minority that does. there would be some posts that are not "serious business" out there, but that is not Thomas nor anybody's fault, if it is a fault at all. I came in SF eons ago and the place has always been very informal. snark, ribbings, jokes, w/e were already there, and this "bar atmosphere" as the mods put it is what makes it different from the other forums. Thomas, imo, is a valuable member of sf.. and another thing... we all came in here for style-related issues, but fact is sf has evolved into more than that; not only have we become a forum about clothes but also about food, travel, social life, etc... I believe this forum is naturally transforming into something more than what sf was about when it started and I think its a good thing.

As much as I'd like to disagree with you here, I'm not so sure I can. I started my most recent parody thread in GC, of all places, so I'm certainly an offender here. I think that's a good point, which I'll come back to in a moment.

There are some things that bug me about the direction of the site overall. I don't care for all the scat humor. I don't care for all the crass sex talk and soft Appreciation (or worse). I agree that the forum has gotten more coarse overall. Remember when you only saw breasts in the "These are fake, right?" thread? Unfortunately, I think society overall has gotten more coarse, but that ought not dictate how we conduct ourselves.

I don't post to SW&D, because I know my sensibilities are quite different from theirs, and I respect that. I think that spilling between sub-fora isn't necessarily bad, until it becomes a nuisance. I leave them alone, because our sensibilities are different and I respect that - and I respect their right to discuss things between them. I have nothing (of value) to add to their conversations.

There are a few more thoughts bouncing around here but I'm having a hard time putting them into a readable form (and avoiding the Powell meme), so I'll stop in a moment.

Last, I appreciate the even-handed discussions of the past couple of pages, and also appreciate the kind words from you guys, especially Manton.

A few things:

First, what's with the ganging up on Thomas? Is he now our official ambassador to DT?

Second, as much as I don't understand much of the "the foarum is in ruinz!" talk I really don't understand why people are surprised by stupid and idiotic behavior occasionally popping its head up around here. Society is overloaded with these people. Its only natural that a few of them are going to show up here. There is an asshole born every second. Membership is up. You do the math.

It is unfortunate when you bump into them in real life, but you shake them off like the dandruff on your shoulder, and move on.
