not when you get email notifications when people comment on your photos
AND you can flag comments to report them to a moderator. so the mods can't claim this silly "shadow forum" nonsense as an excuse to get rid of them.
Why did they not emphasize this feature when getting rid of thumbs? Seems like it could have saved a lot of bitching. Also, it's not more effort for others to know to look if we just thumbs the post in addition to a photo comment. Then it just becomes like the old system but more comprehensive. Huddler's software is horribly designed. It's that simple. I don't care about how well it works on big sites, or how SEO optimized it is, or whatever revenue-generating capabilities are baked into it – from a user experience standpoint, it's just awful. And making any change to the software seems to be difficult to impossible. The fact that they couldn't make it so thumb comments could be moderated is ... insane. There's still no way to remove a thumb if you gave it accidentally. The mobile theme still asks you to confirm your thumb even though there's no comment to leave anymore. The photo comments leave a much bigger opportunity for a "shadow community." It's all just super weird.
