GDL was born in St. Petersburg's gas lamp district in the early 70's. Raised there until he and his parents moved to France when he was 4.

Awesome, good to hear, I'll pick some up for the office.  I know exactly what place you're talking about too, because someone used it as a landmark to show me where an ATM was on Sunday.  My London friends back in New York all told me you can't get good bagels here so I just dismissed it despite the huge line, but now I'll give it a shot.

Very close by is a little Paraguayan bakery called Morena that I was incredibly impressed by.  Some seriously authentic Yerba Mate too, better than anything I've found in New York.  And their desserts were great as well.  The sort of stuff you can tell is made with love by somebody that just recently opened up a shop because baking was their passion so it's still small time.  you know that vibe I'm talking about.

Tonight I had a really good meal at a place called Dishoom but I won't go blabbing about that because I know how that goes around here..

Have you been in Hostem or Present yet? Checked out both tonight and was very disappointed by Present, but Hostem has some great stuff even if it's not all my thing.

Maybe now that the thumbs-comments are gone I can start acting like a real member and post fits. Maybe now I can contribute to discussions beyond 100-character slang-driven hidden comments. Maybe this isn't just an end, but also a new beginning. Maybe now I am free.

No, but I've never met GDL and can only go by what he buys / what he posts that he does / fit pics with a blurry face and what I can make out of in the background.  He just seems like he "gets" it and that's why I made the NYC assumption.

Would all of this be turned upside down if I ever met him?

Yeah Present london is really crap frown.gif

Liberty's has a great, great selection of menswear though, also visit couverture & the garbstore, sehkelly workshop (pretty close to shoreditch), anthem store, and eat all the food in chinatown foo.gif

Great exhibition on at the Tate Modern too, also the rain room at the barbican is incredible.

4est - newyorkers (for the most part) wouldn't know what a good bagel is if it hit them in the face. It's a lost tradition there, what with inflated size and breadiness... I'll go on record and say that the brick lane beigels are far better, particularly when you get a fresh batch, and even more when you're drunk at 4am and waited 15 mins in line with all the other guys who crave a brick lane bagel after drinking... They're still made in the old fashion way, are smaller and really chewy. Don't expect an everything granola bagel there though and bring your own toaster if you want it toasted!

I went to Hostem (agree, great place, but 0.3% of the clothes are not black or charcoal...), Anthem (very interesting assortment of brands, small shop) and Present (way too much unexciting US brands there for me, but exceptionally nice staff, great f'ing espresso and I got to try a grail Cabourn jacket)

hmmmm, i dont think that "all of this would be turned upside down" if you met him, but it would give you a broader understanding of him. but i think you could say that abut anyone who you never met before. anyways, g is a stand up guy, and you should meet him if you ever have the chance.

either way, i dont want to blast his personal deets, so ill leave it to him to say where he hails from, if he so chooses.

GDL once wrestled a large wild boar while wearing only his SNS Stark and a pair of bespoke trousers from Mina. GDL let the boar go after a prolonged headlock rendered the animal nearly unconscious. The only casualty suffered that day was the second to last button of the Stark, torn away by the indifference of the boar's tusk.

This is what happens when they take our thumbs comments. Chit chat about London beigels, NY cupcakes and the origins of gdl.
