I had trouble ordering coffee in NYC recently (I'm Australian) - I asked for a strong skinny latte which is double shot ristretto with low fat milk - all I got was blank stares - though ordering in Dean & Deluca was my first mistake.
I actually found the coffee from Saturday Surf NYC to be very good - but they use the best coffee machine in the biz La Maracozza.

I wish there was a filter for completely off-topic posts. Also, I don't even drink coffee (or tea) but it seems like for most people it's rarely actually enjoyed and more something to complain about.

nope, i love my non baller coffe. no complaints here.

I'm not a hot beverage drinker and i don't like coffee, but I like a cup of hot chocolate mixed with a spoon of peanut butter, occasionally (during the holidays)

Best cup of coffee that I've ever made myself is with a single cup drip brewer. Nothing beats it in terms of ease and quality.

I probably shouldn't bother responding to someone who is attempting to generalize about all of North America, but.....

You can get hand press (hand pull) at many places in Seattle, I am sure in SF, also Portland probably has a million of them with shade-grown, cruelty-free, free-range beans, etc.
