teger jumped in sometime after this. recommended reading.

The twisted part about styleforum is that all of these guys are <23 or 24 at the most probably, and have the impression that everybody in SW+D is 16. If these guys hadn't given up on life 2 years before they could legally drink a beer, I would've been able to save them with steez. Instead, they shall have a lifetime of suckling on huge leathery pancake breasts, learning to subconsciously block a screeching woman's voice, and paying lots of bills that they'll never get out from under, despite how MC suave they are.

This is the guy who invites you to his house to hang out, and then gets incredibly mad at you for touching the empty craft beer bottle collection he has displayed on his wall on makeshift 2x4 shelves.

But they dress like grown-ups!

I used to play dress up too. When I was 4. But only if the girls got full-naked, as I used to insist, and call it. devil.gif

NB are one of those odd functional items that happened to become fashionable like North Face jackets. I don't dislike like them because they're fashionable, but I think they're just kind of ugly and imo just don't go very well visually with a lot of clothing. They also remind me of frumpy dads or east coast prepsters, but I fully realize that's a dated reference and they've since been adopted by different tribes and have different associations now. I'm also averse to loud branding and all I see is a giant N.

Fwiw, I think chucks are a little ugly too. I don't really like any captoes especially contrast ones. I'm just more into plainer sneakers (baller or not) with cleaner lines. I like Vans, Common Projects and Stan Smiths because of this and I also associate them more with my background and interests. Lavers are a bit too chunky and retro Nikes are too nerdy for me. On the other hand, I think Nike Air 95s are kinda cool so go figure.

sorry, maybe this topic should be in a sneaker thread instead of here.

They're shoes designed for sports that have become normal casualwear; I understand (really, I do) why people think they're ugly, but I don't understand why one brand gets singled out for becoming more popular in the same way that other arguably ugly sneakers have become popular.
(Also, really sorry to keep this discussion going, but I'm really curious)

Until then, the numbers had been tied.

This pretty much sums up the problem with MC's perception of SW&D. MC posters = elegant, successful (and sprezzy!) gentlemen. SW&D posters = Dungaree-wearing, parental basement-dwelling losers.

Yeah, thought so - thanks. It's painful to let it go, but looks like there aren't two ways about it. WAYWT leaving for SXSW (or, rather a 9 hour drive to Austin):

It's interesting that most of the SW+D posters seem to have a pretty accurate perception of MC (using the guys who post on both places as a baseline) but that's not the case the other way around.  I'm saying this realizing that maybe my own view of things is distorted, haha.

Kgfan, that's great, what's the jacket?  Drkshdw?

I dislike all of them. I really think they look out of place with a lot of the other shit you see people wear. NBs are actually the closest to an exception of those for me...closest but still not one.

While agree with Teger and Fuuma on 100% of their points i do feel like he's strawmanning that guy just a little bit. He didn't really post anything that made me think oooh! shots fired! except in defense.

(Not to say that some of the other MC tools did)

Jesus, are those guys really that young? As a student more or less in the <22/23 age range it's unfathomable to me how anyone my age could have the desire to dress like that, much less being convinced that it's socially necessary or functional, even. Not even the most east coast prep-set kiddos around here get that costumed the fuck up. Shit's grotesque.
