I dress like a complete ass half of the time but my main gripe with Liam's fit is that he actually looks wayyy too "try hard" as you put it.

It's kind of like he tried to take every piece that is supposed to make you a cool guy and put it all together. I mean this in the nicest way possible. Like Wally's are cool, the pants are good if they lost the crease, but it's all downhill after there. Casual tie is stupid, especially in bright red. and paired with the tweed vest and leather jacket and a nicer shirt ahhhhhh you look like you tried to rip off a ralph lauren ad but got it all wrong.

Even though your fits might be dated or classic, what carries them is that luckily you have a good looking face and you are in good shape so to exemplify that " the man makes the clothes " and not the other way around.

This is good but I think you can benefit from some "nicer" sneakers.

EDIT: Something like this?

My first WIWT pic ever!
I'd really appreciate any and all feedback and putdowns. I think the picture isn't so good because I'm horrible at self-timer; times I wish I had a significant other.
I am going to get the jeans tapered and hemmed, but before that I wanted to try the double cuff look. Not sure how I feel about it because I feel I look shorter.

I kinda felt the same about the sweater! Hm, I like it so I'll try to find something to do with it, or just keep on wearing it, tbh.

I wasn't sure if a taper would be good with the LVC, but I wasn't going to taper it so much. Why do you say to not taper it?

Sweater def too big. Makes the whole thing look sloppy. Cuffs look uneven, but may be the way you're standing. My first impression of the jeans are that they are not very flattering to your body type and that trousers would probably be a better choice.

edit- Do you have the jeans pulled up too high?

if the sweater's fairly new you could almost certainly flip it for a decent price. epaulet is well liked around here.

jeans look good how they are man. any slimmer and they'll look off balanced with your top half. cuffs are a tad awkward here though, but you said you were going to get them hemmed so that's whatever.

I feel like I was maybe a little mean to Liam O so I'm going to try this again, because it seems like your intentions are good. I think I summarized it well when I said you look like you're trying to rip off a ralph lauren ad, or trying to emulate some cool look you've seen or maybe even misremember, but it's very transparent that this is the case. It is just clear that you tried to make due with what you had, and sometimes that can go really well and show a lot of character, but in this case it doesn't.

Like I said before the wallabees and pants are totally fine, and the shirt is probavbly fine but a little formal for the pants and shoes. tweed vest might not fit right, I can't tell, but either way it's out of place and doesn't make you look like the j crew model you think it does.

I know the casual tie is pushed down the throats of people that may use glossies for inspiration or guidance, but it looks super affected almost all of the time, and I'm sure in your head you thought the pop of color would add something cool but it's just not working here.

Others may disagree but I think the leather jacket has potential. Wear it with the collar popped and some old jeans that fit the same way those pants do, and with the wally's, but with something underneath that is whatever you perceive the opposite of what you have on now to be. That would be a good look I think.

I'm still not sure if those pants are chinos or cords, but they fit you well and would look good with any top that is more casual than that one. Think like an oxford cloth button down, or even a plain gray crewneck sweater. easy stuff that will look good and make you look as all-american as I think you want to look, but without looking like you're playing dress up

Unless the person REALLY has their intended look nailed down, it seems like layering heftier fabrics (i.e. wool) should be left to the rail-thin dudes. The sweater is a touch big, but another size down and you'd probably look a bit congested with what looks to be a fairly substantial BD shirt underneath.
