not talking about anyone on here in particular. I just get bothered by the whole, "you just don't understand art!" phrase since its sometimes a kop out for something contrived, and unnatural.

You're in the city right? Have you gone by SF moma and seen the warhol/lichtenstein/done etc stuff?

Im not one to say I understand modern art, but it's still a pretty visually impressive display.

steveoffice, really enjoy your fits. Any idea where I can pick up a pair of boots in that style for a discounted price? Margiela, Dior, etc.

Art snobs are like clothing snobs or music snobs but people interact with clothing and music a lot more often (on this forum) so it's more "ok" to like obscure, obtuse, and intellectually stimulating artistic output in those fields. Modern art is no harder to understand than a Rick Owens outfit or a Dirty Projectors Album. IMO "fuck modern art" is the equivalent of "style not fashion" or "OMG GB2P4K!!!"
why do people react against the idea that art should involve difficult ideas and what are (laughably) seen as 'obscure' references? does anyone say this about, say, theoretical physics? most good art, certainly most good literature, involves difficulty. backing away from that and bleating that it's elitist is just ridiculous. yes there are a lot of idiots in the art world who will throw around references to thinkers to invoke a certain reverence and add an aura to their work which is just irritating. there are a lot of tossers in the art world for sure (and i run a gallery, believe me i know), but so there are in every field. and beneath that 'layer' there are a huge number of genuine artists who are trying to make work and engage with really complex areas of form, thought, experience. wrong place for this discussion so ill shut up.

the one time i'm not gonna get page-turned and it's probably the worst picture i've ever taken in my life (and a second, almost as bad picture) normally i wouldn't bother but semi-visible fit pics are still better than awful discussions about art

this is unfortunately the best pic i have of what i was wearing yesterday

looks surprisingly restrained. i'd probably not have the collar out but obviously that's sort of your style. i dig.

GN gets it. I often think that people who hate on modern art just haven't seen much of it. Usually they haven't seen too much older art either. Or dance, or photography, or performance art, etc. etc.
