i think you're reading into what i wrote first a bit much - and let's face it, most people post fits here cos they think they look good and are seeking the approval of others.

The reason runway looks ridiculous to most people (for the most part) is because they don't know **** about it, which is the same reason certain art is considered ridiculous by the public (not to draw any further comparisons between art and fashion).

look i don't know what you're on about with designers and this runway nonsense, but i'd always place more stock in the feedback of those around me than a bunch of people i don't know on a forum (very few of whom seem in any way 'experts' on fashion, by the way).

you're much more likely to get an honest opinion/reaction (body language in particular can say a lot) than on sf, where it often feels like everyone just pats each other on the back over how great they are, and rarely give anything but middling criticism except to the obvious targets.

sf is good to read but i often miss how blunt / ruthless people on sufu waywt used to be with their feedback, and think it ultimately produced more varied and creative fits than on here.

Still disagree on this as well. I posted something related on the "sufu dead?" thread now in dumb threads. It's not all a vanity/approval/attention thing for many people. Nor is it always looking for a critique to try and better wardrobe like many new posters or others trying out something weird. If i wanted to simply post for approval and compliments i'd go to lookbook or fashionspot. It's more sharing clothing experiences and participating in a hobby with friends. I like seeing Gosurface fits, not to learn new things or to hone my craft, but because i like Vanna, miss hanging out and like to see what he's up to. ARW fits are nice because i like talking with himin threads/PMs and seeing his new purchases and new outfit ideas. Could go on like this. Your mileage may vary though. It's nice to hear compliments/critiques but most the advice i see from random posters is terrible. It is nice to hear stuff from friends/people whose fashion i like though. Not like "i don't think that jacket works with those shoes" but more "i like those boots. think they'd look good tucked with those other pants you own and maybe that leather jacket of your's" or "that shirt could also work in a nice ervell/americana type thing if you switch up the bottom half if you wanted to mix up looks" Could be more ruthless here on some fits but tbh, there are a lot of users who dress fairly well and looking for different stuff so there's nothing to really add because they're doing what they do well. Then there are some here who just look ****** but many are new posters and there's no need to be super mean unless it's funny. It is disturbing the posters who have been around who still look either bad/lame Also, disagree to an extent about the "random people opinions". There is definitely a balance and many people are super closed minded. NN definitely knows what he's doing and i imagine random people opinions don't matter than much as he dresses well and times when stuff doesn't really work or is a bit strange/off (like him wearing the red julius leather with his biz cas) he is self aware and knows

agreed with CB, I think you were projecting a bit chrono. not that I disagree with what you're saying but I don't think that's what cb was getting at.

I wish people would be more critical as well but posters seem to fall into such discrete camps now (casual lux, workwear, preppy casual/jcrew lookbook, gothninja) that its increasingly difficult to be critical without saying the whole subgenre sucks. There are very few posters that span categories and often when they do, like kelvin, they do it wholesale.

When I first came to SF, PP was the definition of what I wanted to dress like. I also think his aesthetic is the most universally accepted as "well dressed" in the world.

WAYWT itself is kind of a skewed view as far as criticism since something boring in here is good in real life. As a product of seeing so many different things that looked good and getting bored with what I was doing I tried out different things just for fun's sake.

I know it isn't completely what he was getting at but do see similar stuff thrown around by other users and felt it was something to address.

Agree though that i think for the most part someone like sq4you dresses well. There are times that within that aesthetic of his i'd tinker with things but not only does every outfit not have to be perfect (in fact the little odds and quirks sometimes makes it better in a worse kinda way), but yea, it's hard to critique things without saying "don't do that look".

Given that's not an excuse to people to dress bad in their "own way" because i don't think eddie murphy's party all the time and bob dylan's "time's they are a changing" are comparable and things can be good or bad regardless of opinions not being right/wrong (they can still be good/bad or educated/uneducated)

For example. I think jaac looks good in that last post. Dunno if that look is my thing and if i did wear it i might tweak a piece or fit, or color or something here and there but i don't think it really needs any of those tweaks as i think it's a good fit

Are you saying there's no such thing as Art or Fashion critics? Because that is precisely what having "Expertise in pure aesthetic judgements" entails. I'm not saying people here are necessarily critics either, but there's a difference between a trained eye and a blind one. Essentially, this forum wouldn't exist is everyone was equally good at judging the aesthetics of things, as nobody would make mistakes in judgement (or everyone would, which would mean nobody would be worser for their mistakes).

This entire construction of yours, with fashion culture framed as some kind of meritocracy of aesthetics, is so dubious it's difficult to even respond seriously.

Love when internet e-thugs can dish it out but can't take the heat.

You call people out over nothing and when you get burned you cry and moan like this.

Weren't you coming out with racist australian jabs to me awhile back? Is it any different to this?
