I'm echoing advice/observation made here at some point, but it's much more difficult to dress tonally than with contrast. It's also difficult to post a picture wearing shorts on SF and not get flak.

Plus, those Y-3 sneakers are everything that's wrong with baller sneakers and little that's right.

Thanks. What's the deal with the Y-3 hate? If they were Lanvin, they'd get tons of praise, I bet. They're simple, one color suede/leather/canvas sneakers. Aside from the large Y-3 logo on the back, which some people might not like, what is the problem?

Unfortunately, no amount of gaudy Lanvin sneakers or $500 sweaters will fix your pathetically awkward physique or patently unappealing facial features. Alternatively, I suggest you invest in some dumbbells and a few rounds of plastic surgery.
I think sq has been one of the main reasons that SW&D has seen a big shift lately from an overload of workwear, to more designer focused stuff. I mean, Jet can preach all he wants, but without pictures to provide some evidence, his pleas to stop dressing in workwear and mall brands go unnoticed.

Now that sq, Kelvin, and a few others have been posting less traditional ****, more and more people are turning that corner (myself included). Notice that the baller sneaker thread hasn't left the front page since its inception. But when Kelvin started that other designer thread a few months ago, it died pretty quick. I bet if he started it today, it would always be front page stuff.

And frankly, I'm glad. A quick walk around campus today showed me that a lot of the stuff that was popular here last year (for example, boat shoes) is being swept up by the masses. And frankly, I hate dressing like everyone else, even if I am doing it better (no one notices those stupid details anyways). No, I really enjoy the feeling of walking around campus wearing **** that no one else has heard of, with cool details that really stand out. It just makes putting on clothes in the morning that much more exciting.

The only regular poster who is doing workwear right is Zissou, but he just fits the part. He's the only one that it never looks costumey on.

I know the guy is going for a unique look, and that's fine, but do you honestly think it doesn't look costumey? Almost ever single thing he posts looks like a costume from some 20th century period piece.

What's the point of buying designer sneakers then? Should have just bought some CPs if you wanted high-end simple. Otherwise you would have been better off with some simple low top canvas sneakers or something. I bet if you wore jeans with them instead, the fit would have looked decent.
You wouldn't get any praise if they were Lanvin, because you just don't have the body type to pull them off, I'm sorry, but those sneakers only look good on certain body types., not everyone can pull them off. Plus I don't think I've seen anyone wear high top sneakers with shorts unless they were chucks. That's not to say it still didn't look bad.

I honestly don't, because he physically fits the part. Just the background too. His lifestyle, his house, even what he teaches at university, it all fits in. I think it does help that he is a little older, because that's the whole workwear divide. Anyone under (say...25?) who is wearing that stuff looks like a tool, because it doesn't fit with their lifestyle. They're just some kid trying to look like an old man.

You might be able to get away with it if you look a bit more rough and tumble/rugged, but just look at kix. The guy wears all this collab workwear ****, smokes, tries wayyyy too hard to look authentic, when he's better off wearing hypebeast stuff, it just fits his age. The guy simply does not look like he should be wearing workwear.

I think Suicmez is right, and it's a good direction imo there are a super wide breadth of aesthetics in the "high fashion" world. Much more interesting than flannels and chambrays all the time. Glad to see it dying out a bit here, although I'm starting to see it more in the real world I think HEH.

I think zissou looks very costumey. Contrived, even. I know he is a nice guy and all but the way he dresses is over the top in the same way SoCal is. The only difference (aside from the obvious) is that SoCal is intentionally being outrageous. Zissou looks like he just walked out of a History Channel reenactment shoot and went home in his costume.

It probably didn't receive much feedback because it is neither offensive nor excellent. For what it's worth, the hem of the jeans looks large (shoe swallow) and the boots have a very MC feel to them. The whole thing feels about as formal as one can possibly make denim look.

I can only speak for myself, but when I / we look at fits, on some level we do imagine what that person's life is like. It is totally twisted up because I know the photos of you aren't the real you, but all I see is some dude taking his wife out to Red Lobster. You look dressed by your wife, which isn't a bad thing in reality, but it's a bad thing on a men's fashion forum.

I would suggest wearing gym shorts, wife beaters, and working on your yard for a month. Get a tan. If it's hot enough to wear shorts where you live already, turn off the AC and live with it for a bit.

Some typically holiday after their first term as noobs only to come back after a brief hiatus which nobody notices until their return as self-appointed and strong-versed style maven although no one in real life can attest to their newfound swag courtesy of jcrew. Others who fit either some or all of this criteria are erzu, jarude, baba booey, piperinalberta, and racing green among others. Incidentally piperinalberta got laughed off the boards every since his b&s items were posted in this subforum and has not been seen posting in SW since.
