out of curiosity, where do you live where this actually takes place? (besides in your own little head)
i don't do it all the time, but if the weather is nice i let the toes breath. I spend most of my day in a hot classroom building, and the rest either lounging outside or playing some frisbee or wiffle ball outside with friends. sandals are an okay choice, and everyone i see today will be thinking the same.
i'm not going to the office in sandals, i'm just living my college life comfortably.

You want to be comfortable in the summer? Wear a pair of white Superga's and "let your toes breath" (blurgh) between classes on the grass outside.

I always think to myself, WWJD? He would wear sandals. Since Atheists aren't people (nor are they sane), I think the correct choice for any sane person is to wear sandals whenever they feel like it (the desert doesn't qualify as any of those three criterion). That being said, I find it hilarious that you chose to use the word "right" rather than "acceptable."
