No. They purposely doubled the number of films nominated this year.

In any case, I've seen 7/10 movies there (haven't seen Precious, Avatar or The Blind Side yet), and frankly, I want Up to win. Animation be damned, it had more emotional depth than the other 9 put together and was amazingly enjoyable to watch.

Never saw Titanic all the way through, so I can't pass judgement. Braveheart was a fine film. I'm not passing judgement on Cameron as a director, I'm just saying that when one takes away the stunning visuals and looks at dialogue and plot, Avatar is not in the same league as The Hurt Locker. I enjoyed it, and it deserves some awards, but not best picture.

Maybe for the first half. But the second half of Up was pretty formulaic.

Those morons in the academy will probably blow it again and give it all to Cameron just like they did with Titanic.

Everything I've seen and heard about it makes it seem like the hundredth reiteration of the poor negro saved by the magnanimous white folks. Yes, I know that it's based on a true story, but the changes from the actual story to the film version make this even more apparent.

It was a response to the uproar last year when fan favorite Dark Knight wasn't among the 5 nominations for "Best Picture of the Year".

But its just going to turn into the Grammy's or People's Choice Awards... (The Grammy's are turning into the awards for the most played stuff on the radio.) I like it when the actual best of the best wins. Thats why the academy votes and not the general public
