Question on the constitution of new cufflinks.

I just received a pair of sterling silver cufflinks from an online seller. They were advertised as new, however when I received them there was some noticeable tarnish on the clasp and a bit on the face, as well as some almost imperceptible scratches on the flat face.

My question is, do you think these were used? I have no experience with silver.

Silver tarmishes (oxidises) in storage and picks up light scratches very easily, I wouldn't assume they weren't new.

no way to know really? I would return it to the vendor regardless.

Thanks for the advice guys. The links were advertised as new without box, so I guess my expectations for newness should be a little lower? If they had been banging around some outlet for a while, it seems like these sort of imperfections should be expected.

silver tarnishes very quickly and is quite easily cleant as well. My wife sends me on numerous cleaning expeditions for her various silver objects.

In any case, minor nicks are likely to not be apparent to the naked eye. If you like the links - enjoy them

I agree with everyone that silver tarnishes very quickly and that shouldn't be evidence of the links being used.

The other day, I grabbed a set of my sterling cufflinks I hadn't worn but once or twice and saw how tarnished they are. I need to clean them before I wear them.
