Good rice cooker?

Anybody know of a good rice cooker? I'll be using it every day to cook brown rice so I want something good. I bought this cuisineart cooker and it was garbage. 70 bucks and it burnt the rice and undercooked it.

Zojirushi

Get one of the fancy ones with fuzzy logic or whatever the hell it is. I use mine several times a week to prepare different types of rice, grains, and steel cut oatmeal and it comes out perfect every time.

I actually like the non-fuzzy logic one better. IME, the fuzzy ones can't keep rice as long as the non-fuzzy.

Besides, the regular one is cheaper, and it lasts longer because there are less gizmos to break. It's about $100 or so for a 5 cup model, and it should last you for 10 years or longer.

There's a "Tiger" brand that's a little cheaper, and it works just as well.

You can make oatmeal in it? I guess we should use our rice cooker instead of the stupid pots...

$70-100! Wow! I bought an Aroma model for maybe $25 or $30 and it's served me very well.

I think some of the Zoji models are 300+ too. Yea I saw the Aroma at Target but after this cuisineart one being a complete flop I'm thinking it might be worth it to get a nice one. But I've heard of plenty of people using $20 cookers and it being fine.

Yeah... How do you make oatmeal in it? Any special tips or just the regular recipe?

Set the mode to porridge. 1 1/4 cup steel cut oatmeal 3 cups water a small pinch of salt Takes about 30-45 minutes to cook in my small Zojirushi. No stirring, burning, etc. The timer is also handy if you want to wake up in the morning with freshly cooked oatmeal ready for you...

My Zoji was only about $100 IIRC. Amazon seems to sell them for decent prices. I don't know what those $300+ ones will get you, but they better make bread too.

Tiger rice cookers are great too! I don't know if they're cheaper than Zojirushi there, but they are on the same price/quality level here.

I've never made oatmeal in my rice cooker, but I have used my crock pot on "warm" (lower than "low") overnight following Alton Brown's recipe, for what that's worth.

+1 on the Zojirushi. My fiancee got one and it outlived my marriage. I think the blasted thing is 10+ years old and it still makes perfect brown rice.

+100.

Whatever the hell "Fuzzy Logic" is I don't know, but it's good

I have the small Cuisinart sorta-cheap model, and it works fine. I don't think you need anything fancier.

I echo the Zoji comment. Not all cookers can do brown rice properly but Zoji has some programmable cookers that do it right. I use the NG10...something like that, got it for about $125 and it has paid for itself since my brown rice is ready every night when I get home and my oatmeal or whatever is ready every morning. check out www.brownricecookersite.com for all the good ones.

30- 45 mins to overnight for oatmeal ? really ? Quaker Oats instant oats 5-days a week will just have to suffice. I was looking for a rice cooker too..
