Never tried pistols, never seen the need to since I have free easy access to a squat rack. But once my legs heal up from my last squatting session I'll surely give these a try.

bw squats are really good especially if you go down low and then explode upward and leap as high as you can, going down and repeating in a very fast but controlled manner. develops explosiveness (nike speed camp videos on their website a while back had more exercises like this)
