Wolverine 1000 Mile Boot Review

How are they weight wise compaired to say a RW moc toe? I stand 16 hours a day just about every day.

I just got a pair of the 1000 Milers from Crane's in the tan color and have to say that they are absolutely gorgeous, so much sleeker and lighter than any of my Indy boots. I've only had the chance to wear them around the house a bit yesterday but they are also surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. I should be able to really get some use out of them this weekend when I take my normal Saturday and Sunday pre-dawn 6-mile walks through the parks to get my coffee and newspaper.

I am going to have to keep an eye out because if I can find these in shell cordovan in my size anytime soon, I will definitely add them to my collection and probably part ways with my Indy boots.

Those are pretty hideous. Will hold out till I get leather laces. I dispise wax laces.

I own both. The wolverines are definately way lighter, maybe a third lighter. Mostly in the sole I would guess. My redwing crepe sole grips better at my work (cement warehouse) then the leather sole. I have my 1,000 miles at the cobbler with a commando half sole being installed for everyday grip for work.

Since I will only wear my incoming Wolverine 1000 Mile as casual boots to hang on in Paris and drink some beers with my friend I don't think I need to use Orbenauf-like products. The only hiking activities will be climbing up the stairs of my work office.
I love SAPHIR products and I was thinking about just using some cream especially made for greasy leather (they added some natural neatsfoot oil compared to their standard cream I am used to pu on my regular leather):

So the dark spot dissappeared but it left a dry crusty mark almost like calcium build up and made the leather lighter. I put a little bit of conditioner on the spot to see what would happen and nothing really.

What is going on? Am I being to picky or what? I know they are just boots.. but I've only had them for a few weeks.

oh.. any way to fix or prevent this?

In case you needed another reason to buy from Crane's, here's one more.

The heels on my 1 month old boots were starting to become detached. I could actually hear the heel making a "popping" sound when I walked (pushing air out of the heel gap?) Although it wasn't drastic, given time I'm sure they would just get worse and soon enough things would creep into them.

Shot Crane's a PM to ask what I should do. Showed him a picture and he told me to shoot Wolverine a call first and see what they say (admittedly saying Wolverine would probably throw me back to Crane's). Spoke to Wolverine and they said to see if Crane's could do anything first since their own customer service would be slow and a long process. Karl told me to give the store a call and give them the skinny. Spoke to Dave on Wednesday and he was kind enough to mail a return label out to me which. Shipped mine out Saturday and gave them a call on Monday just to see when they might get my size in to ship back out to me (they didn't have my size when I called Wednesday). Dave was pretty swamped and that they did have my size in stock that day and he'd try and get them out that afternoon. Fast forward to the afternoon and he gives me a call saying he forgot that he already sent me a new pair on Friday which were on my doorstep when I got home. Funny enough, Dave actually sent me a pair Monday afternoon without realizing they sent me the pair on Friday. So I'll be promptly refusing a package when the 2nd pair gets in

Long story short, if you're in the market for these boots (or really anything that Crane's sells), do not hesitate for a second. The good folks at Crane's will take care of you.

PS - If you're local to Seattle, take all of your cobbler needs to Broadway Shoe Repair on Broadway and Republican in Capitol Hill. These guys are true pros and have the quickest turnaround I've ever experienced (had to topy this second pair).

Is it inevitable that the white stitching on the welt will darken as a result of snowproofing these? I'm guessing it would be counterproductive to weatherproof all of the boot minus the stitching. So far I've snosealed the area on the sole between my topy and the heel and along the soles' edges.

Just came back from lunch where I took the opportunity to test my sno-seal job on the 744s in some nice deep puddles. Got the entire welt submerged, only the faintest hint of a breach on one part of my left shoe. Probably wouldn't even notice it compared to just the chilliness of the puddle if I weren't specifically checking it out. Might give that spot a touch up with the sno-seal in that area later this week.

Also, noticed that haberdashmen.com says having a sale on 1000 milers for the next week, phone orders only. $250, free shipping. Don't know how that compares to Crane's usual deal, but that's about $100 off.

Was thinking about getting another pair, but realized what I *really* want is for there to be 1000 miles in Natural CXL. Tan predator is nice, sure, if you want light colors, but nothing develops a patina with exposure to sunlight quite like natural cxl. Just in case anyone with any kind of power is listening in on this thread.

I know exactly what you mean. Ive had my 1K's for a couple of yrs now and they've served me well but I too was looking for something in natural CXL. I ended up picking up the Oak Street Trench boot. I like the boot's profile and quality is right up there with my other Made in USA boots. I'd even put the finishing a step up from RW, Wolverine, etc.

Agreed - love natty CXL.

Can't decide if I like the OakStreet boots or these White's better:
