I'm feeling nice today. I guess the Merlot is doing it's thing and no I'm not picking rocks in a vineyard at night. LOL!

I'm fairly certain I'm the first or one of the first people to actually have the boots soled commando style. My preferred setup is the lugged heel like what Mario has and the Vibram Raptor half sole up front. I did this about 3 years ago and so far there's been no issues. Considering what I do to these boots, which is well documented in this thread, that's saying something. Of course I have a good cobbler who does this sort of thing to boots all the time. Keep that in mind when looking for someone to half sole your boots.

Sitting on my cobbler's counter the day I picked them up.

Are those glued on, Crane's? I've been looking for someone who could put some commandos on my 1ks. I found a cobbler today who will glue on something with a similar pattern for about $25.

I have the opportunity to get a pair of Wolverine 1000 Mile Austen boots for $200. However, I have never purchased any footwear from Wolverine before. I would appreciate some help in sizing. The only sizes available are 8 or 9.

I wear a 9.5 in New Balance sneakers, an 8.5 in Clarks Desert Boots & Allen Edmonds 1 and 8 lasts, and an 8 in Allen Edmonds 5 last.

What say you fine gents?

Hmmm. I'm torn. Buy the 8s and send me the info on the 9's LOL.

Seriously though where is this deal.

I wear 10.5 Asics and 10ish Clarks casual shoes. I wear a 9 wolverine and could get by with 8.5

They are on Gilt.com for $269, but if you use the code MY25 it takes 25% off.

The Gilt code is tied to your account.

Also, the Austens fit 1/2 size smaller than original 1ks.

Hi,

I just recently purchased some Wolverine 1ks in cordovan colour. They're really nice, but i'm a bit concerned about the leather on one side of one of the boots, it looks cracked and i'm not sure if it's ok or not. I have an album here with some good and some not so good photos: http://imgur.com/a/FMtUB

Could someone who is more knowledgeable than I, give me some insight into this? Are they bad enough to send back, or am I just being too paranoid? I just applied some Saphir Renovateur so hopefully that will make a difference.  Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

IMO they're fine, bit dry maybe. Fwiw, I didn't like Reno on my 1ks and switched to boot grease. I use Dr Martin's wonder balm. Takes a couple of days to soak in but really works well

Thanks, appreciate the response.

Why didn't you like the reno? I only got it yesterday after so much research about what would be best. Everyone says something different. I only put it on a couple of hours ago and they're new so I imagine I won't be able to see much a difference anyway.

I actually felt it made the leather drier, just didn't like the results.
Switched to lexol for calf shoes and the doc martin stuff for boots
