Obenauf's LP or Montana Pitch-Blend Leather Dressing. I've been regularly using the MPB on my brown 1K's, have worn them every day for over a year, and they're still looking great.

Obenauf LP does darken the boot.  You might want to try a neutral colored leather conditioner, like Venetian Shoe Cream or Saphir Renovateur.

Are the tan 1Ks CXL?

More people on these boards need your advice.

Any idea how I can get the toe box settle like this?

A hammer, large vice or kicking the stuffing out of many rocky hillsides?

Shots like that look like set pieces to me, ones that have been staged rather than being the result of natural wear. Would love to hear the story otherwise.

Hey guys, little update. I've returned my tan 1Ks to the eBay merchant and immediately ordered from Crane's where I got the rust 1Ks for a lower price and shipped to my door in no time. Yes, friends, definitely call these guys first if you're in the market for 1Ks. I'm getting them topy'd today and should be wearing them by the end of the week.

The tan boots are made of Predator leather these days. It's slightly different than CXL but good leather nonetheless. Care for them the same way you would CXL.


I'm the consummate expert at kicking rocks and my toe boxes do not look like that. Those things look like the were run over by a car.

I'm not sure how reinforced Wolverine's are in the toe, but I hit my Red Wings repeatedly with a hammer until my arm was tired and the toe always just sprung back.

I recently used some LP on my tan Addisons. I like the new colour, but I do find it darker than what I had hoped for. As well, there's some uneven darkening in some pots. Any advice? Reclean and reapply? Wait for it to fade more?

A side note, my boots are frequently exposed to salt and slush. (Montreal winters).

Wait for them to fade IMO.

I wonder if you're able to accelerate the fading process by taking a blow dryer to them for an extended amount of time to dry out the leather?  Or maybe exposing them to a UV lamp?

These aren't jeans. You also don't apply excessive amounts of heat to leather. That's one way to destroy them. An ultraviolet lamp will most likely darken this type of leather as well. Exposure to sunlight tends to darken full grain leather as does exposure to the elements.

Just got a pair in tan. Very satisfied.
