Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Smart wool medium weight hikers.

x2 on the Smartwool. I use the light hikers for my boots. Versatile material, don't need to wash after every wear. Worth the extra $

Finally checked out a pair of the brown 1k in person and was surprised by the rather angular toe box, does this mellow out a bit with wear?
Also, can someone comment on the colors or post a side by side pic of the Red Wing GT black cherry and the 1000 mile cordovan #8? Would be nice to have a sleeker alternative to the RWs.

Can anyone recommend a good cushy insole for the 1ks? Mine is wearing out but I was never satisfied with it fully. Just a basic gel insole. I'd love something with a little arch support and a snug fit.

A pair of original 1000 mile boots in any color and size along with a Filson wool vest is now up for auction in the Ronald McDonald Charity Auction Thread. So if you were on the fence now's your chance to get them and support a great cause.

Our Eleventh auction for the Ronald McDonald House is for a pair of Wolverine “1000 mile boots”, which will take you most places that you want to go, and an accompanying Filson Mackinaw vest, from Crane’s Country Store.

Would wearing said socks (or similar socks) require someone (me) who is looking into purchasing a pair of 1K's to size up?

Yeah I actually use Filson boot oil as well. Does some really nice touching up on my boots and I even use it on my saddleback products (also by the advice of Crane's). Between those two things and occasional dusting with a horsehair brush they've stayed in great shape. I will say that the color has darkened through the use of these products, buts its a really beautiful dark chestnut color. Also I got a rubber sole put on the front half of the boot and I think it was worth the investment. Depends how you use them though.

Not unless you were planning on sizing down.

I'm currently using the Spenco® Full Length Arch Cushions. Amazon has them for about $12 a pair. It has good arch support but not too aggressive.

I wear these in my courtlands: http://www.superfeet.com/products/Copper_DMP.aspx

But I've read good things about this one too: https://secure.yoursole.com/us/footbeds/signature-viesturs/
