Typically done by a local cobbler. My leather guy charges me around 30 bucks to do it.

Could you post a side-shot? I'd like to see how this affects the aesthetics from the angle most people will see.

Btw they look GREAT to me.

If I'm not wrong I believe Wolverine would re-craft these if one desires. However if one gets something like this done localy would Wolverine still re-craft them if one wants to do that later on?

Wolverine doesn't recraft these unless that's recently changed. I specifically discussed this with Wolverine corporate a while ago and the answer was no.

That's a pretty tall sole...why not shave down the leather before doing the commando job?

Those look awesome.  Thanks for doing, and thanks for posting.  I now want to do the same, and i'm curious -- i've been wearing my new W1Ks for about a month so my leather sole is pretty scuffed, that shouldn't be a problem should it?

That commando half sole is just awesome. Need that on my 1k"s badly - the leather slips on wet surfaces sometimes - not a real confidence booster when riding to work. Love the way it makes the boot look, too.
