So I need to get one of these waterproofers. What is the feeling about Obenauf LP vs. Sno-Seal? Is there much difference? Can you go wrong with either of them?

I've used SnoSeal since the late 80's when (IIRC) it was the only product of its kind. However, I used SnoSeal solely on leather boots designed for hiking & backpacking. For hiking boots, I'd probably still use SnoSeal. For casual boots not designed for outdoor sporting activities, Obenauf LP works almost as well as SnoSeal in its waterproofing properties but it works better as a conditioner & preservative. Since my 1K's aren't mountaineering boots the Obenauf LP is my product of choice. That said, you probably can't go wrong with either.

Not as much as I do in the cooler weather, but in the dead of summer, I don't wear work boots much. One reason I like the 1K Miles is the leather sole. A thick lugged sole may look out of place in warmer weather where the sleeker leather sole is a bit more versatile.

Maybe, maybe not. I think it just depends on what size boot you wear, and how slim you are. I think they can work fine with tapered jeans, though. I wear them with denim that has a 7.5" leg opening and it looks great. They also change shape over time as they break in and become a bit more sleek as you wear them. edit;

these pants have a 7.5" leg opening and i'm wearing a size 9 here for reference. The boots were hardly broken-in at this point.

Well my buddy Chris at Albert's in Centralia MO gave me a call and said come pick up your boots. Below are pics of my resole job. We went with a double oak leather sole, leather stacked heel with a Vibram lugged heel plate and the Raptor half sole. It's a badass combination that will provide traction in all kinds of conditions. I'm thinking those 721s I own need to have this done to them as well. Oh and this is what a pair of beat to death brown 1Ks look like after being thoroughly cleaned and conditioned. Nice deep color and a great patina is beginning to develop. Love that Raptor sole!! I'll save your pics for reference so I can show to my local cobbler. He's added vibram 1/2 soles to my RMW's and they came out great. I showed him my 1K's and he said he'd be happy to do something similar when the leather sole needs replacement. Since my 1K's are primarily city boots and never see off road/trail use, he recommended that we replace the leather sole and add a slightly more aggressive patterned vibram half sole (note, more aggressive than the 2337's he installed on my dress boots, not more aggressive than your raptor). The vibram with a chevron pattern seemed like it would work for me but the raptor looks very cool. Whichever sole we go with, he'll have to order it anyway. I'll likely have the work done next fall before the snow starts falling. Your boots are looking great, thx for posting. I think Wolverine really got it right with these. They may not be custom Whites or Vibergs, but I think they are a great boot at the pricepoint. I picked them up for a nice discount at a local shop.

Yessss. That is perfect and I think it needs to happen for my pair, too. Is your average cobbler gonna have those things on hand or should I order them on my own? If it's the latter, where should I look?
