Shirt came back from the tailor with a stain. What to do?

I have a tailor downtown who is reasonably priced, comfortable to go to, and has done good work on my a few of my RLBL suits, shortened a Dior as best as one can shorten a L to R, and has done a bunch of slacks as well. All well priced, at least based on my limited experience with other tailors. A non frills shop but who cares really.

I just recently brought in a bunch of RLPL shirts to be taken in. He recommended not only taking in the waste and shortening the sleeves, but also taking in the circumference of the sleeves, which I didn't even know could be done. $25 a shirt for those alterations on each. Everything came back fitting perfectly and the work looked good to great as far as I can tell. I only noticed that the seem where the sleeves had been tightened didn't look the same (more visible threading and not perfectly even) as an off the rack shirt, but maybe that's just the nature of hand machine sewing.

There was one white shirt though that I noticed a blue blotch that I don't remember being there. I had my GF pick them up for me and I noticed it that evening. The shirt needed a cleaning any way so I decided to drop it off at the cleaners and noted the stain. I assumed it was a chalk line that got wet and blotched. Well it just came back and it's lighter, but still visible. There was also a little black dirt over the blue splotch that came off.

The problem is one, I overall like the tailor, his prices, turn around times, and workmanship. Accidents happen. Also, the shirt wasn't perfectly clean when I gave it to him, though I really don't remember getting it wet where something would have bled onto it, nor did I spill anything. I also think I or him would have noticed it since I did try it on for him to pin.

What's the protocol for this? It's not a cheap shirt at MSRP, though I bought it here NWT for less, it wouldn't be the easiest to replace, nor cheap for him. I already had it washed, do I just ask he pay for a professional dry cleaning? If it doesn't get clean do I ask for just a refund of the work, plus compensation such as how much I paid, an adjusted price (I only wore it about 8 times), or what it would cost me to go to RL and get a new one?

I would like to continue using him, like I said I can accept a simple accident, so I don't want to be a dick, but I also don't want to get dicked out of an expensive shirt.

It is the risk of getting things tailored. Honestly, I would need pictures in order to judge how terrible the stain is. You should probably just eat this one. I'm sure the stain will lighten over time and become less noticeable.

I think I would let it go, unless it's really bad. Maybe go talk to him, and see what he says. Who knows, maybe he will be more than willing to refund atleast part of your money. If you don't want to burn this bridge, I would take it easy. If you feel like you need to get restitution, I would definitely not ask for more than you paid.

It's not terribly dark. It's just large and on the outside of the forearm so I basically can't wear it without a jacket during the day. Possibly it will wash out. I got a good deal on the shirt so I think I'll just bite my tongue on this one and be more attentive next time.

That stain is really big. I'd still say bite your tongue, and if it happens again then make a fuss.

I would let it slide....and I'll take the shirt But definitely don't let it happen again.

One of my tailors does decent work, but I've stopped going since my stuff always look like they've been sitting in a pile of loose threads. A decent tailor should at least steam/press and brush your clothes before declaring the job finished.

I wouldn't take it back to the tailor because the shirt has already been dry cleaned, but I would be vigilant with the tailor going forward.
