yeah, they do get a bit touchy at times, and don't get me started with the snide, under-the-radar remarks they tend to make at each other.

Well, there are the chicks who can hang (LC most notably, a few others as of late) and those are wonderful to have around. It's the ones who get their noses bent out of shape or don't want to accept that a post is not malicious/directed at them - those aren't such a good fit for the 'old firm'.
