TyC

I trained for 3 months. I got help with a personal trainer at another gym for cardio / workouts and my kickboxing gym 2 days a week for sparring / bag work / etc...

I think I'm going to continue my training at the regular gym though. I'd like to keep the momentum going. I can easily get down to 185 lbs and maybe about 10-15 % body fat if I keep doing some cardio and lifting / body weight exercises.

I'm not sure about continuing with this gym unless I just try to compete with regular kickboxing. They obviously can't help me with MT and they'll barely be able to help with kickboxing.

my experience is the same as M@T. you dont know who your fightin in amateur unless youve seen them at another tournament etc. you really only know their name and record.

Not applicable in this case, unfortunately. It seems OP's chin was too busy blocking punches.

Atleast he was willing to step into the ring though.

Yea, I have to agree with Matt on this, you can only learn MT from a MT gym/coach. Books/vids are pretty much useless.

If you're looking for good books on combat sport conditioning, I recommend Ross Enamait's Full Throttle Conditioning and Infinite Intensity .

Yeah, that's what I was looking for. Training tips for a fight.

I think I was in pretty good shape but I was / we were still pretty wiped out by the end of the second round. I don't ever want to lose because of conditioning but I wonder if I could've been in even better shape than I was.

you can always be in better shape. just a matter if you were in good enough shape. for what its worth ive almost never watched an amateur heavy weight fight where the guys werent tired by the second.
