Roman era

If our multi-tools today, with their screwdrivers, pliers, and the rest, center on fixing things, this Roman predecessor is more useful for enjoying the pleasures of food. The tool includes a spike which historians think was used to snag snails out of their shells. A hook-like spatula is thought to have helped coax sauce out of the bottle. www.gizmodo.com/5460475/the-worlds-oldest-swiss-army-knife
i don't know about you guys but i think this is just fantastic. and so aesthetically well-designed, too!

Lol at the spike that experts think might be to get snails out of shells - just like the thing on modern ones no-one knows what is for but might be for getting things out of horses shoes with. I'd never seen pictures of that before - it's really interesting. Civilisation really did take a 1000 year holiday after the fall of Rome.

Interesting that only the blade is corroded. They must have used a different metal for it.

Impressive. Thanks.

That is very cool indeed. I think it looks cooler then the modern ones.

Cool. Did they have ones with oyster shuckers instead of snail spikes?

The blade was made from steel, the rest is made of silver.
