Did anyone here enjoy "Where the Wild Things Are?" (Movie, not book)

I recently watched the movie, "Where the Wild Things Are."

I have to say that it has been many years since I've seen a movie I actively disliked as much as this one.

It managed to be boring, depressing, and unengaging all at once. The characters were uninteresting, the plot non-existent, and the dialog banal.

I felt like I'd gone over to a friend's house and had to sit through an interminable dinner while everyone in his family quarreled with each other and threw plates.

Is Maurice Sendak still alive? I have a hard time believing that he would lend his name to this messed-up rendition of his classic book.

I agree totally. I took my two boys to see it, since it is one of their favorite stories...complete disappointment.

I liked it. It was a bit too long, I felt. Ironically, I felt the framing scenes at the beginning and end were more engaging than the middle, although I did like the middle. I've never read the book though.

as the french would say: it blew chunks. are people incapable of making good films anymore? i just realized i havent seen a movie i thoroughly enjoyed without some fatal flaw that was made in the last decade

Anyone could've seen this one coming. What a terrible idea for a film adaptation.

I liked it too. The book is like 400 words long, so I knew they would have to extrapolate a lot.

Rather, they managed to put in a lot of subtext about relationships, maturity and causality. It made for great teaching points for my nephew and niece.

I haven't seen the movie, but when I was little I didn't enjoy the book half as much as my mother apparently did. Same thing with the movie E.T.
