Is Baccarat worth the premium?

Is Baccarat worth the higher price over other stemware?

I was shopping at Neiman Marcus and Baccarat looked very nice, but is $200 per glass too much? Do they chip or break easily? If I buy a water glass and wine glass for six, that would be more than $2400.

Does Baccarat go on sale?

You just need to man up and buy a complete set.

I like their highball and old fashioned glasses because they are kind of overdone and a bit obnoxious. I'd never get a matched set of the stuff, but we have the above in various different models.

if yo are interested in labels, buy reidel glasses and spend the money saved on a good bottle.

I only use Riedel, that is worth every cent of the money.

The ones sold at Target? I never heard of that brand before, I had to google it.

I want something much nicer. If not Baccarat then maybe Waterford.

you are free to dislike it. but normally fine crystal is used by most people on special occasions and goifn along with that idea, if oen is serving liquor at special occasion one does not serve torres 10, one would actually serve a decent cognac. in shor tif you have money to purchase the high end crystal, the drink shoud be high end as well. do you spend 8000 usd on a custom bicycle and than buy panniers that cost 30 usd?

Most times when people buy "better" wine glasses (e.g. Riedel) it is because the glass will help with drinking the wine, not to use it for a "special occasion". With that in mind, it makes sense to serve a $30 bottle in a $70 glass, as the effect may actually be more noticeable.

The Riedel at Target is good for everyday stuff - it's not as expensive and if it breaks it's not that big of a deal. If you are looking at higher end stuff, check the Riedel Sommelier line (though I would say that Riedel Vinum is probably fine) at Williams Sonoma.

I understand the logic that saving something nice for a few occasions makes the occasions more special. But I also believe life is short, and we should use the nice stuff more often.

I think Baccarat could make a $30 bottle a more enjoyable experience. The way it reflects the light and color and the design.

Is it true that in all the James Bond movies, the only glass Bond drinks from is Baccarat? The salesperson told me this. I find it interesting that from 1960 to 2010 they would use only Baccarat.

You don't get it. Amazing booze is enjoyed occasionally. I can surely see how it makes special occasions slightly more special sometimes. But I like to enjoy life every day and I really take pleasure in small things. So using a really nice glass for my everyday booze makes it slightly more special as well. And if you break one, oh well, cost of doing business. Indulgent, perhaps, but so what?

I feel sad for people who keep dusty china, silverware, and crystal somewhere in the backroom for "special special special" occasions. The only way I would understand it is if it's something unique, fragile, and has a special value. So I might not pull out a hypothetical antique glass my great grandpa saved during the war every day. Otherwise it's all fair game.
