Allergic to deodorant?

I just put some deodorant on after my shower and felt a really strong burning sensation in the left armpit. I looked and there is a red splotchy rash there. It looks to be the same on the right side but the splotch is much smaller. I haven't changed deodorants recently. Should I just try a new one? What if it's the bubonic plague

I have the same problem! Speedstick is the worst, my skin will start peeling if I use it once.

I've been using gillete gel without issues but its expensive and doesn't last long. I've started using mitchems and arm and hammers unscented kind. I'd try those?

Conne, this is very common. The fix is to not scrub your pits so hard during your shower, and wait at least 20-30 minutes after you shower before applying your deodorant.

I read of a prank once which involved straightening out a staple and sticking it into someone's deodorant stick. The staple would scratch the skin, and the deodorant would get in there and cause irritation.

I've had this before... It sucks! Mine came from using the crystal stick. I lost the good bacteria that my armpit had and it got really red and chapped. Felt terrible, to say the least. I stopped using the crystal stick and am using Tom's of Maine. No probs.

This happens to me if I use an antiperspirant. Check if your deodorant says antiperspirant or not, they seem to be more irritating to the skin than simple deodorants to me.

On a somewhat related note, it is a good idea to trim your armpit hair as more hair=larger surface area for odor-causing bacteria to grow. Less bacteria means less deodorant.

never heard of a theory about good bacteria on my skin. alunite on a stick is the best solution without ANY chance for an adverse reaction ..

The suggestion of good skin bacteria likely implies that nonpathogenic strains crowd out pathogens.
