Summer in NYC - what would you do?

Will be in NYC this July and August for an MBA-level internship (I'm 30, not 20). Would appreciate any SF-approved recommendations along several lines:

* Housing (area) - if you know of anyone who has a sublet, please holler
* Shopping
* Nightlife
* Restaurants
* Events

Many thanks.

Madison Ave and 60th Street-ish. While it'd be nice to live close, my classmates are telling me to live in the West Village.

if you can afford the west village i strongly recommend it, it's one of the most surreal places in the summer time, it's out of a movie. the only word i could use to describe it would be sleepy. it's so nice over there in the summer time too, i would suggest that. as far as shopping you're right near barneys flagship

how much do you have to spend?

all these people bitching about summer in NYC.

In south texas it's usually near 100 degrees with near 100% humidity almost all summer.

stop bitching

yeah but you dont walk everywhere. In new york you spend most of your time walking, subwaying (waiting for the subway too, which can be worse).

I would suggest the Upper West Side.

Yeah, but in Texas you live indoors. I spent six weeks in NYC last summer followed by six weeks in Houston (where I grew up). The difference is in NYC you are actually outside in the heat and in Houston you just sit in AC all day.
