Buying Paintings, Lithos, etc.

Please recommend places/outlets to pick up quality, recognized art with provenance,excluding ebay.

Basically, Im looking to pick-up a few reasonably priced pieces from Picasso, Miro, and Dali.

Just go to the Picasso outlet at your local strip mall. You can get last season's works and slightly damaged masterpieces on the cheap.

Other than a reputable auction house, a reputable gallery.

I have no affiliation or interest, but here's one in Northern CA that seems well known for selling prints, such as the ones you mention above:

For example, they sell signed Miro prints, as well as works by other well known artists, such as Picasso. You'll note a difference in price compared to the fakes on eBay.

I saw some nice acrylic paintings by Titian on ebay a while back. I think the seller has since stopped selling things though.

I wouldn't use "reasonably priced" in the same sentence with the artists you listed, except for maybe Dali. Who I would stay far away from due to his habit of signing blank sheets of paper that his assistants would use to create art.

I was in your position a few months ago. After doing some research and much looking, I decided it is much more satisfying to collect art from living artists than it is to collect prints from modern masters. The former reflects your unique tastes rather than the tastes of the general public.

If you're still interested in modern masters, look at I. Brewster. I bought a Sam Francis print from them.

Thank you. I'm admittedly new to the hobby, and by "reasonably priced," I was hoping to spend around $1-3K per piece. While I am not expecting the Mona Lisa, I was hoping that I could pick-up a few authentic lithos within that price range. Perhaps, I am a bit naive? I have a few larger pieces by unknown artists, but there is something about the historic significance of those I formerly acknowledged.

You have selected the three most overpriced artists in history. For $1-3k each you'd be talking about unsigned, open edition lithos. Anything limited, signed and authenticated is likely to be 3x your budget. Maybe a Dali, but as someone else said the main reason you can find lower priced Dalis around is because the massive amount of fraud surrounding his work makes everyone skeptical of the provenance of any piece.

Picasso churned out so much medicore crap later in his life that you can literally have a Picasso Outlet.
Seriously though ; if you have $3-$5K to spend you can have your own Picasso on the wall.
