The Guinea is good, but is more restaurant than pub to me.

Matt, give me an idea of where you are staying / want to go and I'll give you a few reccos. Some places like the Greenwich Union are great for beer but a bit of travel from central London. The Engineer (around the corner from me) in Primrose hill is considered one of the original gastropubs, but I find it a wanky place which is more of a restaurant also. St John's in Clerknwell / Farringdon is not a pub so much, but is a good example of traditional yet modern English cooking and the marrow is highly regarded by Bourdain.

Pubs I've liked are the Harwood Arms in Fulham, and the Bull and Last in Kentish Town. Ramsay also has a few places like the Narrow and the Warrington.

Pub (Public house) is more of a gathering place that is more like a bar yet frequently serves food and is sometimes kid and family friendly. Frequently no table service and bar focused. Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese is probably a good example of a pub (though not necessarily a good one).

Fair enough. I do like the Guinea, but its probably not a place that pops to my mind when I think "pub".

But he also has a few casual pubs. Like the Warrrington is a beautiful building, though I've never tried the food.

In just over a week, I'll be plopped in a hotel near the Euston Tube stop for three nights. Any reccos for nearby?

No, I'm staying there. No interest in Ramsay pubs, or much else of his.

Euston itself is devoid of much in my opinion, but its very central and a short hop to a lot of other stuff.

3 nights should allow you enough time to try a few things

Good Indian / Pakistani - Tayyabs in Whitechapel
Pint of Guinness - Toucan in Soho
Pub food - See above and I'll try and think of some others I like
Finer dining - lots depending on what you like
Beer drinking pubs - Try a Sam Smiths (for the beer not much else), there are a bunch in Soho / Fitzrovia or take a boat tour down to Greenwich and head to the Greenwich Union for some Meantime Brew.
Etc...

Have you ever stayed at the Stafford?

That's where we go when we aren't visiting friends, and I think you might find it more appealing.

Does the Cheese? I've mainly only drunk there, think the only eating was after I was pretty toasted. As I said, frequently they dont do table service, but some do. But anyways, Cheshire Cheese is still definitely a pub.

Yes. I've stayed in their Mews rooms several times, but the decor was painfully English to me. I don't actually know why we are staying at Claridges this time.

I know what you're saying, but it's mostly the vibe of the service that I like. I like familiar but unobsequious service. We used to stay at 47 Park, but that is all private now (I think.) I used to love the little French girls bringing breakfast from Le Gavroche.

I've been at Claridges a couple times and like it well enough.

On food, you already know that you'll want to hold your nose as long as possible until you get to France. You can practice for your slaughter at St. John, though. Even if you're not a drinker, if your friends are, beer in London can be fantastic.

Are you serious about getting a gun? If so, handle a few of the used ones at H&H while you are there...they have a good mass of swell ones.

I'm very envious of your pig adventure...I've had a hand in a cow slaughter, but that is a lesser animal.
