Annual 1-Year Bump Also, I think the main difference between MC and SW&D is that SW&D is much more polarizing in almost all of its incarnations. Which is to say, the looks posted are going to make someone who is into that aesthetic cream themselves, whereas someone who has no notion of the brands/image/subtext of that whole look is going to think it's real weird. MC looks are much less polarized in that there are few looks posted in WAYW that the average person on the street who's not into style is going to vomit after glacing at. I personally think the test of whether a look works is whether people who aren't into that aesthetic think it looks good [in addition to still retaining its original appeal]. With a polarizing look you should get more extreme replies, which means more people will hate it, but your Love/Hate percentages should go from like 10%/5% to something like 40%/20%. If SW&D approves your look but 90% of normal people (or 90% of the MC crowd) think the look is stupid, it's probably time to reevaluate the choices you've made that have got you into this terrible mess. I agree with a previous poster where a large portion of it is "Okay so you put on a shirt and jeans? Nice."

Might want to rethink that.

Ill-fitting sack suit with boring tie: widely accepted as "looking nice / above average" The sickest fitting goth-ninja outfit: widely regarded as ridiculous and try-hard Thus, even though the sack suit is lame and pathetic, it creates a less polarized range of response.

Yup. A guy in a really badly fitting suit and stupid shirt/tie will look much less stupid to the average person than the a person with jeggings tucked into hiking boots, with boxers worn outside with a too small hoodie and a scarf that looks like it was designed for an elephant. No matter what subtexts and hidden meanings the boxers have.

You are comparing a good goth ninja look to a shit MC look. Someone wearing a bow tie, fedora, loudly striped shirt cuff links, aggressive plaid 3 piece, pocket watch and spectators will look just as ridiculous and try hard. Someone wearing well fitted jeans, clean sneakers or boots and a well fitted tee and a hoodie or some other jacket would also look above average too nice people. Basically if the entirety of WAYWT circle jerks over what your wearing chances are the public thinks you look shit.
