Style Explosion?

Suddenly, I'm seeing double-vented suits everywhere (in NYC) -- are they now much more common among RTW suit makers, or is bespoke tailoring really that much more popular than it used to be?

Brown shoes seem to be everywhere too, even on men who aren't all that well dressed or don't seem particularly stylish.

What's going on?

Really? That explains that one.

I haven't worn/shopped for suits on a regular basis in a long while, but I seem to recall single-vents and ventless outnumbering double vents something like 10 to 1. I used to never see double vents worn by anyone but senior-level bankers and attorneys. And Europeans.

I've seen more brown shoes lately, too. I attribute it to the onset of summer although I don't recall seeing as many brown shoes in previous summers. Double vents appear to be popular among designer suits these days so it's no surprise to see them on more men here, but they don't get any more style points for those since the double-vented suits are just as ill-fitting as the single-vented ones they wore a year or two ago.

I just read about a member's intentions to have a tux made with notched lapels and side vents, and that just struck me as all kinds of wrong. (I think side vents are best matched with peaked lapels, though that may simply be because I've traditionally associated side vents with double-breasted jackets.) Anyway, I now realize that I haven't noticed whether all the double-vented suits I've been seeing around have had peak lapels or notched ones. How are the mass-market designers styling them these days?

I think these are just in fashion now. In five years "everyone" will be wearing black and the mags will be saying brown shoes are for old men who are behind the times.

In Korea, black shoes are only for old people.
