Levi 514 Selvedge - Page 2

I'll measure the rise on my 514s when I get home in a couple hours if no one else has posted it by then.

yea, it's about 10". no idea about back rise.

what country are these made in?

I measured the 32 in waist pair I have here and get almost exactly a 9 5/8 rise on the front and a 15.5-15.75 rise on the back (assuming I'm correct to measure rise from the meeting point of the crotch seams to the top of the pants along the seam). I might consider a pair of these once people report back on how the denim is. I really like the legs of 514's. I like the top block as well, though I could deal with a tinier bit trimmer butt and maybe even another half inch or so on the rise to make them absolutely ideal.

Are these expected to be sanforized or true raw?

Thanks for the help guys. I usually wear 501's but I tried 514's on about a year ago and thought they were too tight in the thighs. I need to go try them on again because these look really good.

i want these. was thinking of getting some Gap selvedge but these have taken priority where can i pick some up online in Canada or maybe a store in Montreal?? (went to levi's store on monday and asked about imprint jeans which they never sold and he didn't bring out any selvedge ones so i doubt they have them)

I wonder if these run longer then the normal 514? They come in a 34 and I need a 36 in Levis.

I really like the fit of the 514's, but based on my past experiences with Levi's I wouldn't even bother buying online. There just seems to be way too much variation in manufacturing from one pair to another. Maybe these are better with that because it's "premium" denim, but I doubt it.

Well, I decided to try to get a look at these in person instead of ordering online, so I went through the Levi's Store in San Francisco today. I didn't find the selvedge 514's, but I did see their new selvedge 501's and I was not impressed.

The 501's don't seem to be on the website, but they had the same $98 price tag and there were two kinds available, both with a tag explaining that they were selvedged and woven on narrow looms. One was presumably raw, and the other was horribly faded and distressed. The denim itself was rather lightweight and flimsy, though. It didn't have the crisp tight-woven quality nicer raw denim has. In other words, they were like regular Levi's but with a cheap-looking selvedge edge.

I don't know if the 514's use the same denim or not, though. The 501's looked to be a lighter blue-jean color than the darker 514's pictured on the website.

Anyway, I guess I'll hold off for the time being. And handling those in person reminded me of why I've always kept my 514's heavily starched.

So I've always wanted a high quality pair of 514s, and once I saw those, I decided why not.. Took them just a day to get here with standard Levi's shipping, and I'm glad I ordered. Got my true size and it fits just right, slim and straight, more so than the regular 514s. I really like the fit, hopefully they won't stretch too much. Obviously not going near a washing machine any time soon. I'll see how they do after a few months. The big question right now if I should get them shortened or keep them rolled up.
