That bounty is funneled out to the rear wheels through the buyer's choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT), marking the first time that a twin-clutch gearbox has been offered in a non-M 3 Series. The same basic motor also appears in BMW's forthcoming Z4 sDrive35is, albeit conjuring up a sliver more power (335 hp/332 lb-ft.).

Thought this was worth posting. Thoughts? the 0-60 is about 5seconds... vs M3?

I don't understand it. Why wouldn't you just spent 8K more and get an M3? I think this quote from BMWBlog sums it up for me: “The 335is has been “tuned” by ///M. The M3 was handmade by ///M” ...making it worth the extra 8K.

+1 for just getting the M

That being said, the trim package (and great color on the blog post) really brings out the otherwise mundane E92 chassis.

M3, even if you have to pay $15,000 or more for it with a decent set of options, still going to be worth it.

Looks very cool. Out of my price range though. If it weren't, I would likely consider it over the M3. Another $10K is a lot of scratch. Still, and maybe I'm getting old or something, but my 328xi is plenty fast enough and fun to drive.

Would much rather see a M-tuned 328 or 128 -- LSD, higher-revving NA engine, alcantara seats with manual adjustment, suspension upgrades, weight reduction, etc. Also, doesn't the M3 come with more options as standard equipment? Meaning that the price difference might not even be that much in the end...

Srly. $8-$15K isn't chump change. For many, while under $50K is doable, that extra coin can easily make a car not affordable. But my vote would be for an M3 between the two. Just means less nice clothes.

Looks fine from the front... I think it looks hideous from the side -- seems unbalanced, not enough bulk in the back.

No. Decently equipped M3 is easily $65,000 to $70,000 Don't forget that one option nobody can avoid, courtesy of Uncle Sam; the gas guzzler tax at $1,500

Looks nice, but I don't understand who would pay $50k for this when you could get a lightly used M3 for the same price.

On that note, I'd like to see how the 335iS compares to the E46 M3. The iS has more torque but a slower 0-60...

Very nice. I like the interior styling better than some other 3s. The outside is beautiful.

I think you get pretty decent value out of the extra $5,500 it costs over a standard 335i. For anyone who never takes his car to the track, an M3 is grossly overkill (well, come to think of it, this one is, also). But, if you have itchy upgrade fingers, this is a nicely factory-tuned car that is also much more easy to live with on a day-to-day basis than an M3. I hope they offer different color options. The steel gray (or whatever the darker gray is called nowadays) is killer on a 3-series. BTW, this is how BMW should offer factory-tuned cars, not like the bullshit they tried to pull before with the "performance package."

You make it sound like the M3 is a Viper ACR or something like that.

The M3 is a very 'livable' daily driver.

And also, $60k for the 335iS Cab is hardly a value proposition.

It is, but the 335is will likely be a more livable daily driver. Capice? It is also a value proposition for someone who doesn't want to spend an extra $10-15k for performance he didn't want/need in the first place. It's called market segmentation -- offering your customers what they want at the price they're willing to pay.
