Thick MOP Buttons available!

I'm a new member to the Style Forum, having just joined in late 2009 after searching the web for a place to buy thick MOP buttons for some shirts I was having made. I have been lurking since then, learning quite a bit on here and appreciating the laughs some members provide. I'm looking forward to becoming more involved with the Style Forum community. On to the good stuff. I have found a line on beautiful, thick Mother of Pearl buttons from an excellent supplier. These buttons are Australian MOP that are cut and finished in Italy - truly resplendent to behold! Many of you already know the effect MOP buttons can have on any shirt as well as how few shirt makers in the world actually use the very best Mother of Pearl buttons! It was beneficial for me to place a large order for more than I needed right now to help alleviate shipping costs, etc. Therefore I have a large quantity of buttons available to the members of the Style Forum. The specifications are as follows: Size 16L, 4.00mm thick Size 14L, 3.50mm thick These MOP buttons are shiny white natural color. I'm attaching a few pictures for now, they were taken quickly in less than ideal lighting but I wanted to have something to show. The pictures display some shine but don't do these buttons justice. Better photos to follow! For those with a technical mind, I have measured a large number of each size button with professional grade calipers and taken data on the thickness. I have yet to compute the standard deviation but it is very small - these buttons are extremely true to spec! The price for either size is $1.75 per button and that price is available to Style Forum members only. A standard shirt usually requires 6 or 7 of the size 16L buttons for the front placket plus another 2 or 4 size 16L's depending on single or double button cuffs. Also, having forearm gauntlet buttons requires 2 of the size 14L and a button down collar would need 2 more 14's. Consideration will be given to larger orders; please PM me to discuss specifics. Buttons will be shipped in bubble mailer packages and shipping within the Continental U.S. will be $1.50 for First Class USPS postage. Shipping is available elsewhere for a reasonable amount as well - I will know more about the shipping costs once some orders have gone out. I just set up a Paypal account to make payment as easy as possible although other form(s) of payment are also accepted. As of right now, these are the only MOP buttons I have available. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or for further information. Thanks, Sean Paul

Thanks Fishball! Shipping information updated, after sending an order out I found that the cost for CONUS less than originally anticipated. Packaging in these bubble mailers is perfect - very robust.

New (much improved) photos coming soon today!

Thanks,

I don't think the Edit feature will let me replace my original button pictures in the first post so here they are - these do a better job of showing off their brilliance! It is very tricky to capture the light at the correct angles to show it off but I hope this helps.

Enjoy,

Sean Paul

For those that are interested, I've taken measurements on 76 pieces of each button size and found that the standard deviation for the 16L (which is a 4.0mm button) is 0.0307mm, which is less than 1%!

The 14L button is a 3.5mm button and the standard deviation is 0.0309mm, also less than 1%.

So there is an extremely high level of consistency in thickness as well as pearly white natural color in these buttons.

Cheers,

The buttons will ship from the U.S. in bubble mailers - Customs Duties and such have already been paid. So if you are in the U.S. shipping will be fast and inexpensive. I will also ship outside of the U.S. for as minimal a shipping cost as possible for members.

Thanks,

Updated pricing for shipping - just $1 for Continental U.S.! As orders have gone out I have been able to fine tune the shipping within the States. Will ship anywhere else as well, simply PM for details.

Thanks,

Do you know how the thickness of these compares to Borrelli buttons? Thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to buy some backups and I need to know if these are comparable in thickness. Any insight appreciated

Although I do not own any Borrelli shirts, everything I have read and heard indicates that these 4mm thick MOP buttons should be a match for the ones used by Borrelli. Most of the information I have found says Borrelli uses 4mm buttons but one person stated they were "3.95mm". Not sure how many people have measured them with calipers to find out for sure.

However, there was one person's opinion that the Borrelli buttons were a little more "plain" or "dull" white than MOPs such as these, which are very vibrant in their natural colors. If that were true than from a shine, or color, perspective perhaps the match would not be perfect. Do you have any input on that just from comparing your shirt to the updated photos I posted?

I hope that helps, at least a little bit. If you are still interested in ordering some and you are not happy once you receive them and compare them to your shirt, just ship the buttons back to me and I will be happy to refund your payment.

Thanks,

Sean Paul

Thank you for the info. From the photos, I think you are correct about the Borrelli buttons being "duller"

Still considering though

Still some buttons available - for a limited time, now offering Free shipping CONUS!

Shipping to other countries is still cost effective, I have sent orders to Russia, Indonesia, Poland and Israel and the cost for USPS International First Class is typically $1.50 to $2.50.

Cheers,
