Career Advice/Bad Boss

A little background: I've been working in accounting at one of the big bank for about 4 years now (12 years total working). I have a manager who just doesn't seem to like anyone, except for two girls that work for him. I've made tons of improvements to reports/processes which have resulted in saved man hours and increased accuracy but get no recognition/promotion for it. I've even gone to his manager and his answer was "maybe you should find a job in another dept." Basically, no one is looking out for me in this group. I've pointed out to my manager all of the improvements I made and basically says "it's part of your job." All signs say I should leave, but I'm so damn stubborn to leave behind all the improvements I've made without getting credit for it. I'm just too damn stubborn. My hatred of my job has pretty much taken over my life...I think about it constantly and am always in a bad mood. Anyone have any advice for moving past this train of thought? Should I stay and try to change his mind (which seems unlikely even if I find a cure for cancer). Thanks.

Nope. Don't try to change his mind! Screw the improvements! If/when you leave, that is when he will notice. This issue here is simple.....your boss likes boobs and legs!

Write up a solid resume' and see whats available to you at other companies. You might end up doing better since you're in accounting and have 12 yrs in.

Nobody owes you anything. Not the world, not your company and not your boss. If you're unhappy, find another company to work for. Better yet, work for yourself instead of making other people rich.

I wouldnt call it leaving with you tail between your legs if you find a better opportunity elsewhere. If you have made the improvements you say you did, your current group will be the ones that suffer.

I would just start looking for new jobs (discreetly ofcourse) and better your situation.

I've experienced similar frustrations as you but have less work experience. You already know what you should do so I won't repeat it. If you have all of these success stories and can demonstrate it you have all the necessary tools to leave for something better. I don't understand what tail between the legs mean but your contributions would and should be acknowledged elsewhere.

Remember, employers are only interested in their bottom line and our experiences prove it.

Try to make sure you know what you're doing once you leave. You know, like, have a plan. Job market is horrible right now, be careful.

Is the problem that you don't get any credit for anything or is someone else being given the credit for improvements you've made? Maybe nobody gets any credit for anything there and it's just the corporate culture.

He has promoted the two girls that work for him (for what I have no clue).
