Migraines Anyone?? - Page 2

Alcohol (especially red wine) and caffeine (and lack of caffeine for those who use a lot of it) are two of the most common migraine triggers. They're also far from the only common migraine triggers.

Off and on for the past few years, I've taken propranolol to suppress migraines. It works wonders, and I suggest that you look into it. Your doctor can probably instantly tell you whether it is safe for you to take. Additionally, Maxalt tablets also work for fast-acting relief of at least the physical pain part of the migraine experience. They are prescription, too. Also, while YoungAmerican is correct, it's not always the case that caffeine consumption contributes to migraine or exacerbates the symptoms. In my case, two doctors have confirmed that caffeine intake probably reduces the duration of my migraine spells (compared to their duration if I never consumed any caffeine at all).

I get migraines frequently. Sleeping them off helps, but I've had them go for a few days on end, and there have also been a few times where it was too much to sleep on. The two big things are figure out your triggers, and then your initial symptoms. Catching one early is the difference between a bad headache a migraine. Hot showers with the massage type setting on the shower head help, and there are also a few meds that work pretty well. -Imitrex: these work wonders, but the shots and sprays are where it's at. If you use one of the sprays right when you feel it's coming on, it'll often kill it or weaken it before it hits full blown migraine status. They're expensive though. -Advil Cold and Sinus: it's the shit. Cheap and more effective than any other standard med that I know of. -PM cough syrup: Anything with DXM works. Take one giant friggin gulp and go to sleep. You shouldn't drink more than a third of the bottle, and make sure that you've eaten something beforehand. +1 to caffeine helping shorten the length of my migraines.

Excederin Migraine which many people find helpful has 65mg of caffeine. In my case sleep deprivation and going hungry for a while are definite migraine triggers.

It can also cause rebound headaches.
