Broken Ankle Diet Questions

Thread Starter
I broke my ankle around the end of December and have recently had ORIF surgery on Jan. 11th. Broken tibial and had a plate and six screws put in. What kind of food or pills should i take to help promote bone growth and repair blood vessels? I generally eat a lot of fast food but im still fairly skinny (6'2 and 175 but may have lost a few pounds due to the inability to walk), but figured now is the best time as any to start eating healthy so that i can heal faster. Any help is appreciated.

Stay away from McDonald's. Wendy's and Burger King are good for ossification and revascularization. Try to limit sodium intake to 2.3 grams per day. So avoid fries. Gatorade will provided needed electrolytes. If you can get fresh oyster shells and crush them and sprinkle them on your food or in protein shakes, that will really provide a boost.

Follow the link in my signature for NZVel. This is a Deer Velvet supplement and it will help your bones grow back stronger and faster. Velvet is also great for your Red blood cells and blood vessels.
Here is a book if you would like to have a read. www.velvetantlerebook.info.
I know this is a little bit of self-promotion, but this stuff is amazing.

My brother broke his ankle playing rugby and was given a 6 month stand down, he was introduced to Velvet and was back training in 2 and playing in 3.

Have a read and let me know what you think. If you are keen let me know and I will do you a deal on some product.

Good luck.

Umm yeah, ok. You should let the orthopaedics know about that stuff.

I blew my ankle apart ten years ago. That wasn't fun, having my tibia sticking three inches out of my skin. And yeah, my right leg is still skinnier than the left.

That reply obviously contains some joking, but the gist of it is true. Consume a lot of protein, avoid excess salt, also avoid excess sugar and heavy drinking, don't smoke, get plenty of vitamin C, calcium and vitamin D, and take a multimineral supplement. You'll probably look better too, if not getting much of the protein from fast food.

You can't?

OP, you should supplement with calcium (preferably calcium citrate) and vitamin D3. Take the calcium in 2 or 3 doses per day, not all at once. The US RDA for vitamin D is absurdly low. Make sure you buy D3 and take about 1000mg per day.

Follow the rehab/physical therapy prescription to the T. If you don't do it right the first time, you will pay dearly for a long time.

Good luck!
