My week of free Scotch...tip top shelf

Based upon several fortuitous happenings over the past year, I find myself working for the US Fed Court in Manhattan (yes, the one where KSM will prob come). As a public servant, my pay is low, but, this is the time of year where large firms sponsor happy hours and other events. In the past they wanted to hire us, now, well, we need the free food and drinks and they need to pretend that they might hire people to stay in the good graces of the folks who handle their cases.

Last week I attended a happy hour thrown by a well-known NY firm...as one of the few friendly clerks, I quickly developed a rapport with the bartender, and my friend and I determined we would be drinking Scotch that night. The bartender was quite nice, and after minimal prodding decided to start us with both Talisker, Dalmore and Macallan 12...these were all fine, but pedestrian as even I can afford to keep a decent bottle at home. As the evening progressed, the bartender moved on to Macallan 18...boy do 6 years make a difference! In short I had 5 servings of Scotch, each pour being larger than those I receive when I am actually paying...my tab would have been about $150+ for the Scotch alone! Low and behold, another firm is having an event at the same place tomorrow! Its a good thing I have no early morning commitments on Friday.

I've received numerous comped drams after running up hefty bar tabs... the most lavish being a tiny pour of a 26yr old Port Ellen (albeit 1980's) and a rather generous pour of the 35yr old 1968 Glenfarclas.

I think I'd be happier with your week of free drams.
