If the stylistic camp didn't tip you off, he was indeed. In the context of homosexual directors, his work aesthetically was a marked difference from someone like Pasolini or even Fassbinder who had a recurring fixation with womanly glamour, which can be seen as a tangent of traditional camp.

An interesting director.

I like Blue very much, and think it is both a sad and a brave film. I like the idea of robbing an artform of one of the qualities that defines its very existence (a bit like John Cage's 4′33″ - the 'record of silence').

In Blue's case the lack of images leaves the film reliant on its soundtrack and narration, and is all the more powerful and poignant for it IMHO, particularly considering Jarman's failing eyesight at the time.

Have you seen a picture of his isolated cottage in Dungeness, next to the power station? An intriguing place.
