Oh, and also: Does anyone know what happened to the original RMF? Did they go under? Were they bought out? I'm really curious as to how this whole re-issue thing came about.

It was fun to read of your comments about Rocky Mountain Featherbed. In 1979, I visited the factory in Jackson Hole, WY making the Down vests. They were made with the highest quality . Leather, Fabric, & Down during the late 70's & early 80's. Most of the seamstresses sewed the entire garment together> & most only worked approx 4-6 hours each day at the factory before going to the ski slopes. These Down vests for both Men & ladies were retailing from $250-$300 in upscale Speciality shops during this time. We spent a week in the factory filming & evaluating the business for a possible purchase; but our sponsors ended up not buying the business due to its location being too far away & too costly to maintain. We enjoyed Jackson Hole & the Million Dollar Bar too!

Just thought I would make a few comments as I was researching RMF today and posted a blog post here:
http://blueowlworkshop.blogspot.com/...e-x-rocky.html

RMF began in the 1960's (some say 1974, but I have found dates in the mid-60's) in Jackson, Wyoming and closed sometime in the 1980's. It was revived by a Japanese company in 2005 that goes under the name 35 Summers Co, LTD. The label continues to make the same authentic outwear styles that made them famous in the US during the 60's. Since around 2008, numerous Japanese designers have done collaborations with the resurrected company including Beams, Mastermind, SiFury, and now Mr. Olive with their EOI water-proof cowhide leather vest. RMF has also shown in Paris tradeshows (capsule I believe) and can be found in various retailers in Europe, US, and Japan.

I'd shoot my girl if she ever wore shoes like that, hahaha.

Because the Japanese are very good at borrowing Americana garments, improving them, and selling them for crazy prices, I thought I would share brand that is similar to Rocky Mountain Featherbed called Powderhorn, also made in Jackson, WY since 1972. Powderhorn did not go under like RMFB and still produce high quality garments. I cant seem to find their vest (which looks an awful lot like the RMFB vest) but here is one of their jackets to give you an idea: http://www.powderhornworld.com/en/ca...rhorn-jacket#0 Stuff looks nice, but I do not have much experience other than seeing a single vest in person. Top quality stuff from Wyoming and much cheaper than buying the Japanese interpretation.

Random ass over-priced vest: $800

Uggs: $120

Wearing over $1000 worth of clothing to look like every other college girl in America: priceless.

If you read the story, you'd have realised it was $20. $20 that she didn't spend.

Had I raved originally about her spending $800 for a vest, your cute joke would have worked much better. It has nothing to do with my ability to think abstractly.

And besides, I feel lik this kinda takes away from the point of the story: small-town girl gets gifted a $20 gift that ends being worth forty times more.

As for my defensive streak: we are talking about my gf, here, after all.

Are the RMF down jackets warm? Like really warm. I have looked for a good winter jacket for a while now (probably wait until next winter though), and their down jackets (the blue ones especially) look pretty cool.
