RCN cable, one of the choices for cable tv here in New York City, is currently OUT of HD boxes. This means if you start service with them, you will NOT be able to receive HD channels until they can get another supply of HD cable boxes and "install" it in your home/apartment.
Of course, they don't tell you this until AFTER the guy comes to your place to hook you up. On the phone they say "Ok, you will get HD - tons of channels". Then they show up and say "oops, we don't have HD boxes right now, you'll get regular cable (which looks bad on an HD TV) until we get more boxes" When will that happen you ask? They don't know.
Nice that they give a kickback to my building manager, too - which is keeping Verizon fios (which is a better deal with faster internet and cable for a lower cost) out of my building.
