i was a fan of blackbird for a while because i was getting good tables. if you are down along the left hand wall it's like sharing a table with your neighbours.

My go-to date places (not all exactly in the loop, and a few have been mentioned already) - West Town Tavern (west town) - HIGHLY recommended Osteria Via Stato (river north) Prosecco (river north, Italian) State and Lake (in the wit, gastro-pub) Bistro Margot (old town, french) / brasserie jo (french, river north) De Cero (tacos) in the west loop Rockit (on hubbard, not the one by wrigley) Mirai Sushi (my favorite sushi) Le Colonial South Coast (sushi) just south of art institute Sushi Samba Rio (Sushi) Marigold (Indian, uptown) PJ Clarke's / Dublin's (bar food in my hood) ==== some places I have not gone for a date, but would be fun for a casual dinner Bull and Bear (surprisingly good food) Opera - fancy chinese.. very close to china town, but sometimes C-town is not appropriate for a date Emilio's Tapas in River North Assuming you're with someone you know well, Frontera's great, but there is a long wait, which is too much for date with someone you have not yet had sex with

Was Longman and Eagle super crowded and do they take reservations? The girlfriend and I were thinking about going there last Friday, but thought it might be a nightmare since it was opening weekend and they might also need to get work out some of the kinks. I did hear the food was pretty amazing and affordable though...

You get a big thumbs up for West Town, especially on fried chicken night! I also live exactly 4 blocks away, so it's a huge bonus for me. Prosecco is actually my friend's restaurant, I reviewed their original restaurant Sparacino for Check, Please! a couple years ago (they seemed to re-run it all the damn time). Mirai is also my favorite sushi place, followed by Coast for BYOB reasons and Sai Cafe off of Armitage and Racine. Emilio's is by far the best tapas in the city, Frontera is Frontera. Have you tried Urban Belly yet? I LOVE that place! Tango Sur is by far the best steak place WITH BOYB...

Thanks! I really want to try Urban Belly, but I have not had a chance. And I was up there at Kuma's last week w/ a 2 hour wait, but my friends did not want noodles. I am always a little underwhelmed by Tango Sur. For South American steak, I think I prefer Las Tablas. First, since I drink beer, I don't get as much value from BYO, but I do find it annoying because people linger, which makes the waits / reservations not work well. Also, can you believe the Fullerton Emelio's is belly up? I totally agree it's the city's best Tapas. Especially the one in the burbs (although I almost never go out there).
