We stayed two nights in a suite at the Hotel Palomar in West Hollywood when we made the trip out there for the BCS Championship game. The suite ran $439/night before taxes. Hotel Palomar is a Kimpton hotel and they are quite nice, albeit modern, yet very comfortable. It is also 1/2 mile from the In N Out burger at UCLA.

Best meal we had was lunch at Lucques on Melrose. I started with a delicious, rustic white bean soup with escarole, and then had a pan-seared black cod for the main course. Some of the best prepared food I have ever had, just fantastic execution of French technique.
