Considering a gig in Columbus that will last for about a year. Any thoughts on the city, what it's like, etc?

One major downside is Conne. Maybe if you're lucky, he'll be gone by the time you get there (unlikely).

I will write more later but it's not awful. It is the biggest city in Ohio. There's a fairly large downtown area, a lot of very good restaurants (though only a couple of excellent ones I'd say), lots of students, lots of government/law/lobbying/related profession people. The burbs are very nice and and tend to have great little "city center" areas with nice shops and such. A lot of bars too. And there are a lot of Ohio State football and basketball fans as you can imagine.

Lame, boring, affordable.

That is better than what I wrote. I've been here for 2 years and while it hasn't been terrible, I would not want to live here for an extended period of time. I miss the east coast.

But only the third-largest MSA.

I was there for a week once when I worked for Bank One. I don't know if its still the case but apparently Columbus was considered to be such a typical city that companies would test new restaurant chain concepts in the city. We hit up a Dick Clark American Bandstand restaurant and something else who's name I forget.

The Bricktown area is supposed to be fun.

I know a TV news anchor who's been there since '91 and she really likes it.

That was my impression from the outside, but was hoping to find some rays of sunshine. Anything else approaching entertainment/nightlife/other activities if you're not part of tOSU?

Hmmm? There is no Bricktown in C-bus.

A fair amount of live music can be had. There is a very vibrant area just north of downtown (Short North) that has all kinds of restaurants and bars. They tend to be busy every day of the week. Then there are a lot of other bar/restaurant "areas." But coming from Chicago it would be a pretty big downgrade.

Sorry, Germantown, is that what I'm thinking of?

yeah, German Village. Lots of nice architecture and some very good restaurants and bars. However, high crime rate. My friend lived there for about a year and had her car broken into three times.

Most of central OH, is great test marketing area. It's also geographically close to P&G making it a useful test market for other things as well.

Will want to be able to get a coffee etc in the evening, get out some on weekends. Will be a very demanding role, so those times I want to get out, I will really want to get out.

It would probably be a lot like my move from Phoenix to Sacramento. Definitely a step down in terms of the town and things to do.

But hey, if the job is good I'd think you can stand to be anywhere for a year. Columbus does have an airport so if you really need to get away, why not just fly to Chicago for the weekend?
