shoes with grey suit at wedding

are brown wingtip or plain lace ups acceptable with a grey suit at a wedding?

are nice black loafers acceptable with a grey suit at a wedding?

I always avoid loafers (more personal preference). I would prefer the brown shoes myself.

All of those are appropriate

For a moderately smart wedding, like it sounds this one is, I would wear black lace-ups with a dark grey suit or the brown with a lighter grey suit. I'd leave the loafers to another occasion.

(Actually, personally, I think I'd wear pewter museum calf with a mid-to-light grey suit, but that's by-the-by! )

For an evening wedding (but on a Sunday), would you avoid the brown shoes with a grey suit and do black? Or would brown be acceptable? (Thinking about taking the Mackays for their first spin next week.)

(Plus, new leather soles could be really slippery depending on the floors of the church/synagogue/reception hall/dance floor/etc.) Plus, between possible dancing, buffet lines, drunk co-attendees, etc., I'd probably spend far too much time worrying about trashing the shoes. But then, you may well be less uptight than me.

You raise some good points. The 10 year old Johnson & Murphy's it is
