For an evening wedding (but on a Sunday), would you avoid the brown shoes with a grey suit and do black? Or would brown be acceptable? (Thinking about taking the Mackays for their first spin next week.)
From a stylistic point of view I'd say the MacKays are certainly appropriate. But if it were me, a wedding might not be my choice for their coming-out party. First, if you're planning to do any dancing, a new and not-yet-fully-broken-in pair of shoes is probably not the most comfortable choice. (Plus, new leather soles could be really slippery depending on the floors of the church/synagogue/reception hall/dance floor/etc.) Plus, between possible dancing, buffet lines, drunk co-attendees, etc., I'd probably spend far too much time worrying about trashing the shoes. But then, you may well be less uptight than me.
