I wouldn't even call this one a faux pas. More a matter of taste. Like you, I often opt for no cuffs on pinstripes, to enhance the lines. This is especially true for Corneliani and the like, where the sleekness is part of the appeal. (As compared with a more American cut, which I wouldn't hesitate to cuff.)
