Converse Appreciation Thread - Page 37

Converse you are supposed to size low, but I'm hesitant to say that because I don't think these would be made the same way all the off-the-line chucks are made, would they?

Right now in typical Chucks I'm a 9 (where 10 years ago I was a 10). For VANS slip-ons I wear 10. My pair of Clarks rotor beats are 9.5, all my Jack Purcells are 9.5, all my Converse skidgrips are 9.5. In contrast, I have 2 pairs of John Varvatos Chucks in 9.5 and they are noticeably bigger than the Chucks I have in 9.

How much are those Reigning Champs supposed to be?

Thanks for the info on your sizing experience.

I'm not sure of the price on the RC Chucks, but I doubt it'll be much more than $100.

I hadn't bought a pair of shoes for a few months now, I just have way too many and some of them I barely wear. Yet somehow I was able to convince myself I needed a pair of Jack Purcell black leathers. I've held off on the leather for at least a year now, but I broke.

So these just showed up.

I guess my suspicions are correct that JP's kinda went through a re-design in the past year or two. It looks like the 'smile' is constructed differently, and the white sole is not actually *white*. It's got a slight tint to it, so it's not that super bright white rubber like how my black canvas JPs originally were when I bought them 2.5 years ago. But I actually like the dulled white, I'm not a fan of super bright white which is why I like to have my shoes dirtied up a little bit.

Also, they came with white laces, which is OK, but I wasn't sure if they would come with white, black or both, as I've seen both in pictures. But obviously, black are easy enough to swap in if I wanted. These laces are the really bright clean *white* as I mentioned above, they look OK with the soles but they aren't the same color. Also these laces aren't nylon like they used to be, they are more like cotton/natural fiber.

Just sayin'. Can't wait to wear these out!

This was random...

I went to ROSS for Less this afternoon because I'm cheap and I just wanted a pair of grey khaki/canvas shorts. Of course it's somewhat hot lately and we can still get the occasional hot week here through September and October (ah who am I kidding, shorts are OK year round mostly). So I grabbed a pair, not much selection, but I got them. Was just getting sick of my white and white plaid shorts I've been rotating for the summer and wanted something different.

I always take a look at the shoes at ROSS because occasionally there's a gem but mostly I like looking at the hideous styles they get people to buy. But occasionally they get Chucks and they had a few pairs of grey leather in my size. They're lighter in color than the Purcells that zappos put up, just a straight medium grey, but they were $30. I didn't need 'em, I didn't go in thinking I wanted shoes, but what the fuck. Tomorrow's payday, lol. I'll be a mega dork and put a pic up later. I've never had leather Chucks... well I guess I have, I have some Varvatos, but those are built different, a little cushier; these are just regular chucks, but leather. The only 'meh' thing about them is they have matching grey eyelets, where I prefer silver, but I figure that's a nitpick and I'll get used to it. Also, they came with white and grey laces, that's a neat little option.

I realized this thread has basically become me talking to myself, but whatever! I'm keeping it going!

Hey me, me again talking to myself...

I think/hope this is my last shoe need for awhile, but somewhere in the past couple months the need for some Converse skidgrip/CVO's came about. Never really been into this style of shoe (think I had a pair of the Payless version in 6th grade) but decided it's a good general look. Converse doesn't seem to sell many types right now, so I had to google them to find the more subtle style I was looking for.

I initially bought a pair of navy ones on Ebay. I bought 9.5's because that's generally my size in all brands. I know Chucks I size down to 9 and PF Flyers I size up to 10 but all my slip on skidgrips and jack purcells and Varvatos and such are 9.5... they arrived and they were waaaay too tight. Much tighter fit than my 9.5 skid grip slip ons-- the fit I was basing these on. The vendor didn't have anything larger than 9.5 so I sent them back and finally got my refund today. I was highly disappointed that the sizing difference was that drastic between a 9.5 lace up and a 9.5 slip on.

Anyway, so yea, I got that refund today, turned right around and bought another pair off eBay. Different vendor, size 10's (better fucking be the correct fit) but I had to settle for Royal Blue. Not really my color, but I think I can make them work.

Can anyone identify these zip chucks - are they old season Undercover or something?

What do you folks think about these Converse "Made in Maine" Boots?

Thinking about grabbing a pair of these but not sure if its worth pulling 3 bills for them.

Looks pretty sweet to me.

Made In Maine boots look much nicer with the Vibram Christy sole. Detroit shop owner of Burn Rubber has already switched out the soles on his pair.

On sizing, I usually wear US11 in most sneakers but take a US10-10.5 in Cons depending on shoe model.
