Fish Tanks

Wondering if any forum members are big into fish tanks, freshwater or saltwater. I had a 150gallon reef tank years ago that I disassembled when I went to college but was considering setting it up again in my new home. It can be a frustrating hobby that drains your wallet like no other but a well designed reef tank is a beauty to look at. Any fans?

All saltwater tanks look the same to me.

I'm a fan.

My current set up is a 90 gallon aquarium with 4 fancy goldfish.

I don't think I'll ever try a reef / marine set up because it seems like a lot more work than I have time to put into unfortunately. I'm happy sticking with freshwater (goldfish now, maybe tropical in the future).

You're tank is a good size, why not go tropical instead?

I had a 75 gal saltwater tank for about 18 months. It's a descent hobby but can be very frustrating as you pointed out. At some point I might try it again but it will not be anytime soon.

I don't know how that is possible. There are so many species of fish and coral you could have 20 tanks and they could all be different.

I have a 30 gallon freshwater setup with crawfish and a 20 gallon freshwater with tropicals and plants at home. In my office at work I have a 60 gallon freshwater with cichlids.

When I was a kid, I had turtles. Over the course of my life I've had Red Eared Sliders, an Alligator Snapper and a Musk Turtle. The Alligator Snapper ate goldfish like a madman.

I suppose I could but a reef tank is just more appealing I suppose. Also, all of the equipment I have is for a reef set up (sump filter, chiller, protein skimmer, lighting hood, etc etc.)

I have kept several freshwater and brackish tanks from small to large keeping everything from tropicals to cichlids including planted tanks. I haven't done saltwater yet, however. I tend to get into it for a while and then when an opportiunity arises to shut it down I do. PITA but I get the itch when I don't keep a tank for a while....

There was a small discussion of tanks in this thread.

If I didn't have to worry about cleaning it, I'd get a fish tank.

Once things are established, they're pretty low maintenance. Weekly partial water change and some quick checks of the system. Most people screw with them too much.

I used to have a 150 gal reef with acroporas, black saddleback clowns and an Atlantic blue tang, to name a few. When I buy my own place I plan to get back into the hobby. I used to post a lot on ReefCentral.
