Modern Tailor Custom Suits - Page 8

Their fabric descriptions are extremely vague and probably intentionally so. The basic fabric that I have is almost certainly a poly blend or very cheap wool. Nothing more exciting than you might find from a mall brand suit. If there's another coupon or sale I might go for another cheap blazer as I have no need for full suits. I have an addiction for single button peak lapel blazers. Not very traditional but I like.

Would I use them if I needed a good suit? Quite honestly, probably not. At $500+ for their better fabric, it's really not that much of a bargain.

I'd be curious to know the quality of the fabrics, quality of workmanship, the small details, shape, how they lay, etc.

Anyone??
Re: Moderntailor Suits, we have one very happy customer who sent us 3 photos of himself wearing our suit. We asked his permission to publish it and part of his email. Here's the link if you want to see suit photos and his comments

I love the work you do with shirts, but will need to see a lot more suits and hear from satisfied customers before I will purchase. Also some sort of incentive like Indochino's $75 tailor credit would be helpful.

Please place two inner chest pockets and an additional ticket pocket on the interior of the jacket, please place this ticket pocket directly below the chest pocket on right chest side and have its interior measurements of 3.25" x 5.25". I would also like a pen pocket inside my jacket on the left chest next to or directly below the standard inner pocket. I want the center of the top button to be placed 16" from the bottom edge of the coat, NOT measured from the rounded edge directly below the button, but from the flat edge of the coat. I want the two buttons to be 5.75" apart measured from the center.
Shipping Cost\t USD 35.00
Credit USD -5.00
Grand Total\tUSD 329.00\t

Overall I am happy with the suit especially for MTM at $329. A few things I found. The waist is 1/4" smaller than I ordered and the hips are 1/2" too small as well and thats why the pockets are poofing out. The jacket length is 1/2" too long from what I ordered. The sleeves/shoulders suck IMO, I expect better from a MTM service.

The fabric is ok. This is the cheapest fabric they offer. It is wool and not a poly blend. Has a nice feel to it. Kind of thin but I expected that for a $299 suit. The pants have that rubber strip thing sewed into the waistband. Not sure if I will like this or not since I have never had a pair of slacks with this feature.

I took LOTS of pictures so I will let them speak for themselves as I am not qualified to discuss the quality.

I made one huge mistake. My left arm is shorter than my right and I completely forgot to note this in my order notes. I'm sure someone will point it out because they didn't read this sentence.

It looks a lot better than many suits costing 10 times as much. What you wrote about the sleeve is obvious, but I don't see how the shoulders are too horrible.

I am considering doing a very similar staple suit like that, in a dark charcoal. I think if I could end up with a similar result, with the exception of slightly slimmer arms and legs, I'd be pleased.

The buttons aren't doing much for me though.

Thank you for posting the pictures.

can anybody tell if the bunching/twisting in the shoulders and sleeves is a construction issue, or could it be explained by the provided measurements? overall, I think it looks pretty good, but I feel like I should point out that all the 299 fabrics (with the exception of the pudding stone gray) are wool/poly blends. the website FAQ says that any fabric labeled 'wool' is a blend, and any fabric labeled 'pure wool' is well pure wool.

"8. What's the difference between "Wool" and "Pure Wool"? What's an Anglo Saxon Wool?
"Pure wool" means that the suit fabric is made of 100% wool, produced from high thread count 150s and 180s yarn. A "Wool" fabric is composed of polyester and wool blend. This is produced from 110s and 120s yarn. The "Anglo Saxon Wool" is made of high quality Australian yarn thus making the wool expensive"

also, +1 on the buttons. they look super cheap.

the buttons are an easy fix imo -- I asked them about horn buttons and basically they couldn't even confirm on yes/no, but for just going out and buying 13 buttons @ like $2 ea and labour it's $30 to replace them all. Not ideal having to pay that much, but still, having a solid suit for <$400 seems worth it to me (I'll be going for the pudding grey one soon hopefully)
